Chapter 65

65 Assassination

The middle east side.

In perhaps one of the most elegant places in the world, a massive and extravagant building stood firmly at the far end of the middle east side.

There was a massive gate, along with two huge pillars on each side. And on top of the two pillars were two dragon statues. The dragon statues were called the alpha and the omega, and taking a careful glance at them, there was a short horn growing out of their head.

The building was the famous Guardian academy. An academy that was established, owned and operated by an oligarch. The guardian academy was one of the heroes institutes that came to be after the emergence of superpowers.

As an academy established by an oligarch in the united nation, the guardian academy was heavily invested. It wasn’t only the inside of the academy that was mesmerizing, the surrounding areas were also glamorous.

And about a few meters away from the guardian academy, a youngster of average height, shiny red hair, and brown eyes was staring at the gate of the academy. And as soon as he saw a man walking out of the academy, the youngster’s eyes lit up.

“Target is out. Do you read me?” With an earbud in his right ear, the youngster mumbled in a low voice.

There was, however, no response from the other side, and it was only until after a few seconds that a voice rang out. “Target acquired. Hector, should we take him down?”

Hector was the youngster standing a few meters from the academy. When Hector heard the voice on the other head, he stared into the far distance before then saying, “Not yet.”

.....

“We can’t kill him just yet, the drop-off has to be made first,” Hector responded.

The man who just walked out of the academy was putting on a tight-fitting black suit, and after he stepped out of the academy, he simply stood there with a briefcase in his hand, then glancing at the surrounding.

Suddenly, the man’s lips began to move and about a few seconds later a middle-aged man along with three very muscular men appeared.

The man on suit and the middle-aged man began talking with one another and after a few seconds, the briefcase was passed on to the middle-aged man.

“Hector!”

Hector, however, didn’t respond, and instead, he continued to stare at the five people who were standing in front of the gate.

The middle-aged handed the briefcase over to one of his guards, and after the guard had confirmed the content which was in the briefcase, he relied on the message to his boss.

A smile soon appeared on the face of the middle-aged man, and he then shook the hands of the man in front of him. As both men seemed to be about to go their separate, a voice sounded from Hector’s earbud.

“Target is on the move, Hector, what is the command!”

Unlike the previous time, when Hector dismissed the voice on the other end, this time around he didn’t. Hector waited for a second, and then he spoke in a decisive tone.

“Take the four of them down!”

Once Hector gave his command, a red dot appeared on the chest of the five people in front of the gate. It wasn’t up to twenty seconds after the red dot appeared that the five of them trembled violently.

The briefcase soon dropped from the hand of the bodyguard who was holding it, and in a matter of seconds, the five of them stumbled to the ground with blood oozing out of their mouth.

Hector quickly ran forward when he saw the five men on the ground, “Help!! Someone call an ambulance!!!” Hector yelled.

Hector’s cry was able to get the attention of the people who were a few meters away, and when they saw the people who were on the ground, they dashed towards them immediately.

“Quick someone call for an ambulance, they are in critical condition.”

Seeing, how blood was gushing crazily from the man’s body, one of the people who gathered around them exclaimed with a tinge of fear evident in his voice.

“Move aside, I’m a doctor.” A woman suddenly rushed in. She crouched gently and began to check the pulse of the men one after the other, and after a few seconds, the woman heaved a deep breath.

“I’m afraid they are...” Before the woman could finish her words, a figure appeared in front of her. And seeing the person who was in front of her, she sealed her lips immediately and moved backward.

It wasn’t only the woman from earlier that moved several steps backward when they saw the figure that just appeared, but it was all the people who were in the surrounding.

The person who appeared was a young woman with long aqua-blue wavy hair and emerald-green eyes. She was putting on a black skirt, white shirt, and a pair of glasses.

“Gwen... Gwendolyn,” One of the people in the area muttered the woman’s name. As she turned toward the person who called her, the man gulped, before lowering his head.

Those pair of emerald eyes that the woman gazed at him with evoked and increase the fear the man had for the woman instantly. The man’s legs soon began to quiver, and he wasn’t the only person who was in that state.

Though the woman didn’t have the slightest bit of killing intent brimming out of her body, merely being at that close distance with her, they were bound to be overwhelmed with fear.

The public opinion was that all heroes and guardians of societies were friendly and sympathetic, but that wasn’t the case for this woman. A woman who was possessed the power to evoke extreme fear and horror in others, it was impossible for people to feel peaceful around her.

“Who was the first person to arrive here?!!” Suddenly, Gwendolyn’s voice rang out, and it wasn’t in a friendly tone.

When the people in the surrounding heard Gwendolyn, they gasped heavily, and beads of sweat could be seen all over their foreheads.

Their breathing became quite erratic as standing beside Gwendolyn was already an issue, and now that she was glaring at each one of them, it was only a matter of time, before they were going to break down.

“If none of you come up with an answer right now, I’m going to have you all detained,” Gwendolyn said decisively.

“We... We...”

It was stuttering one after the other from the people in the area, as they were unable to get the words out of their mouths, simply because the woman had eyes fixed on them.

“Fine then. You are all under arrest for participating in the murder of Luke, Waylon, Easton, Robert, and Rowan. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be used against you in court.”

“You have the right to have an attorney and if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you,” Gwendolyn said. “Now move!!!”

The fear they had all been experiencing was nothing compared to what they were feeling at the moment. It was tenfold, and when Gwendolyn took a step closer to them, fear gripped each one of them so hard that they began walking towards the academy.

However, they had only taken a few steps when another woman appeared in front of them. Seeing the woman that just appeared, a smile immediately appeared on their faces.

“Gwendolyn, what’s going on here?” A second after and the woman’s voice rang out.

Gwendolyn, however, shook her head when she heard her colleague from the guardian academy.

“Gwendolyn, this is improper, we have rules that we follow. You can’t take them into your custody without giving any justified reason. If you can’t give a valid reason for this, then, I suggest you let them go.”

Gwendolyn raised an eyebrow, “Have you seen those bodies over there.” Gwendolyn muttered.

It was only after Gwendolyn had spoken that the people moved aside, and the woman was able to see the bodies which were on the ground. And as her eyes came in contact with the five of them, they bulged instantly.

“Who... Who did this.” The woman’s voice became cold. She clenched her hand into a tight fist and the corner of her lips pointed downward.

“That’s what I’m about to find out,” Gwendolyn said, then pointed her hand towards the far distance. “Once I have them locked up, I will head to that building because that was where the bullet was shot from.”

The woman swiftly turned towards the direction in which Gwendolyn was pointing at, and when she saw the building Gwendolyn was referring to, her eyebrows furrowed.

“Isn’t that place too far away for a bullet to be shot from?” The woman inquired with doubt evident in her tone.

It was however indeed, as the woman had said, the building was meters away from the academy. It was simply because of how tall the building was, that they were even able to get a proper glimpse of it.

“If the shot was fired from there, then what does this have to do with any of them.” The woman exclaimed. “Except one of them possesses a doppelganger or a clone, which isn’t so. I don’t see how they would be able to attack them from there, and still, be here at the same time.”

“It isn’t possible. So, you still don’t have a justified reason to have them locked up. Release them, and go bring justice to whoever really did this.”

A smile once again appeared on everyone’s faces when they heard the woman. The smile continued to widen, but it was only after Gwendolyn’s voice rang out, that it vanished from their faces.

“I’m still going to have them in custody.”

“I didn’t say it was any of them that killed Luke and the others, or did you hear it from me,” Gwendolyn said. “But, based on the fact I have gathered I believe it’s a teamwork between them instead.”

“They were after something. Once the shooter took down Luke, and the others from over there, some sort of distraction occurred immediately, and it was during that distraction that they took what they really came for.”

Gwendolyn stared at the woman, “And In case you haven’t realized it, the material which Luke was to hand to the headquarters is no longer here.”

“I’m not saying the killer is among them, but one or two, or perhaps even all of them, share a relationship with the killer. If they don’t, then they must have seen something.” Gwendolyn spoke with complete confidence.

“The cameras outside have already been disabled by the attackers. So whether legal or illegal, I’m going to pull out all the information I can get from them.”
