110 Chapter 110. Battling the Lizardman Chief and its Guards

Jack's head was spinning as he lay on the floor of the hut, pieces of broken wood strewn all around him.

"Are you all right?" Peniel called from above him.

Her voice helped him to force the dizziness away. He looked to the source of her voice and found her floating above. The hut he had crashed into happened to be the one that Peniel had been perching on. Seeing Jack fly in, she promptly flew over to check on him.

"I'm fine," Jack said as he collected himself and rose. "Damn! Those Lizardmen have way too many skills at their disposal."

"Of course, did you think that they'd be the same as the Lizardman minions you killed in droves at the ravine?" Peniel smirked.

Jack took out another basic healing potion to recover the health he had lost. He only had three potions left after this. He heard running footsteps approaching the hut. Jack looked around; there was a wooden door behind him. He opened the door just as the Lizardman Chief's face peeked in the hole on the other side.

Jack presented its face with a Mana Bullet before exiting out the door. Once he was in the open, Jack heard a whoosh and an arrow stuck into the wall, inches from his head. He quickly ran towards the hut next door.

The ground cracked apart as he ran; he knew the Lizardman Shaman had used its spell again. His reaction was much better now that he knew his opponent's move. Jack jumped forward to evade the sprouting vines. When the vines changed direction to pursue him, he slashed his sword in mid-air and cut them. He fell to the ground, rolled away, and hid behind another hut.

Just then, the door of the damaged hut exploded into splinters as the Lizardman Chief barged through.

Jack ran further into the encampment, weaving through the wooden huts as he tried to break away from the Lizardmen's perception. Finally, he lost them. They looked around in confusion and continued to search for the intruder.

After Jack was sure the monsters no longer knew his whereabouts, he crept around slowly to avoid making a sound. He used his radar to pinpoint their positions, allowing him to stay out of sight.

He hid from the three Lizardmen as he stalked the Shaman.  He had been paying attention to the Shaman's red dot since he broke away from them, so he knew which one was the Shaman. Jack realized he was not strong enough to take the three lizardmen on at the same time, he needed to take them out one by one to win this battle.

The Lizardman Chief was frustrated when it could not find Jack. It started to break down all the doors of the huts he passed by. An unlucky one was even razed to the ground by its violent axe swinging.

The three lizardmen spread out to look for Jack. This was a perfect opportunity for Jack. He continued to hide from the three using the huts around the encampment as he let the three separated even further from each other.

As Jack drew closer to the Lizardman Shaman, thick creeping vines writhed around the ground encircling the Shaman. They constantly moved, searching for a victim. The Lizardman Shaman probably realized it was Jack's primary target, so it covered the area with protective vines. Jack had no doubt those plants would instantly strangle him if he stepped onto their territory.

Jack changed his position, trying to get a better angle on the Lizardman Shaman. The monster was standing on the roof of a hut. It was using the higher elevation to get a better view. After zeroing in on the Shaman's location and checking that the other two monsters were both some distance away, Jack prepared to launch his offensive.

Jack pointed his staff at the Lizardman Shaman and fired off Mana Bullet. Then he cast Energy Bolts and continued his range offensive with standard attacks from his magic staff.

After he had upgraded his magic staff to level 21, it inflicted almost as much damage as his sword despite only being an uncommon grade. Combined with the severe damage inherent in his Magician's spells, Jack's ranged attacks now compared favorably to his melee. The Mana Bullet scored 144 damage, while the five Energy Bolts dealt damage ranging from 60 to 64.

The Lizardman Shaman was stunned by the sneak attack. Its concentration wavered, and the creeping vines around it stopped moving. Not wasting the chance, Jack continued to fire off standard ranged attacks from his staff as he ran towards the hut that the Lizardman Shaman was standing on.

The vines crunched as Jack stepped on them, but they stayed still. As Jack was running while shooting, many of his ranged attacks missed. The Lizardman Shaman snapped out of its daze and immediately began to control the vines. But Jack was already jumping up. He kicked on one of the protruded wood beams on the hut wall and leapt onto the roof.

The vines were climbing up, trying to grab at his legs as he jumped. But Jack launched into a somersault and swung his sword down, cutting the vines that were about to reach him. When he landed, he looked straight at the Lizardman Shaman's terrified face.

Jack did not show any mercy as he started hacking at the monster. He positioned himself so that Shaman's body was blocking the Lizardman Archer so it could not shoot arrows at him without hitting its comrade. It was like a dance with the Shaman in the middle: the Lizardman Archer would move to get an angle to hit Jack, but Jack moved in the opposite direction, giving it no chance.

The Lizardman Chief was furiously stomping as it made its way towards Jack. Jack ignored it for now as it was still far away.

Jack fully utilized the time he had, riddling the Lizardman Shaman with an unbroken chain of slashes.  Its HP was decreasing rapidly. The Shaman was mainly a supporter unit; it couldn't defend itself once its enemy got close. And it couldn't cast any spells because, unlike Jack, who could cast his spells instantly, the Shaman needed uninterrupted time to chant its spells.

While Jack bullied the Lizardman Shaman and evaded Lizardman Archer, he didn't forget about the Boss. His attention to his radar never wavered. When the Lizardman Chief came within ten meters, Jack unleashed Power Strike sending the Lizardman Shaman flying towards the Archer. Jack cast Magic Bullet rapidly and hit the Lizardman Shaman while it was still in the air.

Jack turned around and jumped to the ground just as the Lizardman Chief attacked with its leaping attack. It chopped down with its axe as it plummeted down from its jump, demolishing the hut Jack had just vacated. Jack looked back as splintered wood sprayed out from the violent strike.

Jack hadn't been sure how long the cooldown of the Lizardman Chief's leap attack was. He didn't want to take a risk and assumed a short cooldown. And he was right. If Jack hadn't retreated, he would be red streaks among the shattered wood.

The Lizardman Chief kicked the wood on the ground to clear the way and chased after Jack. Jack returned to his 'hide and seek' tactic. He ran behind another hut to get out of the monster's line of sight. He planned to make another sneak attack on the Shaman once they lost him.

The Lizardman Chief let out a furious roar seeing his opponent's cowardly actions. He brandished his axe and then held it out to his side and began to twirl around more and more quickly, crashing into the hut that Jack disappeared behind. The whole place exploded into matchsticks!

Jack was shocked by the violent display.

"Are you for real?!" He exclaimed as the Lizardman Chief burst past the hut he had used for cover.

The Chief's whirlwind move was still going strong. It continued to spin as it rapidly approached Jack. Jack knew he had no time to escape, so he lifted his Magic Shield and blocked the spinning attack. The block minimized the damage Jack took, but the impact still sent him flying.
