Chapter 116: The initial idea of the Charming Pet structure.

Sigh, why does everyone lean toward Pokémon? I’ve watched Pokémon, but not that much, about fifty or so episodes, plus a few movies. When I started writing this, I had planned to watch it, but I was afraid that watching too much would steer my thoughts. Therefore, I didn’t watch it.

Most of the Soul Pets in Charming Pet are my original creations. I compiled an encyclopedia of Soul Pets. The main source of materials comes from Western demons and Eastern mythical beast monsters. There will be some distorted images. Most likely you’ve already formed some baby images in your mind. Then, through some one-sided textual description, you start drawing correspondences, distorting the look of the Soul Pets…

The appearance of MO Ye in the early stage is Nine-Tails, which is a fairly popular image. You can use your imagination for that. The blueprint in the late stage is closer to the Chinese mythical creature Redflame Beast. There are similar images that you can try to find. The Night Thunder Dream Beast’s blueprint is Dragon’s Mocking Wind. The upper half of the Nightmare’s body is based on the Western Fire Demon. MO Ye is the Black Battle Tiger, its blueprint being the Scorpion Tail Leopard from “God-like”. The Ice-Feathered Spirit is based on the air elemental image from “Heroes Invincible,” only its body is more slender. Similarly, the Demon Tree Warrior is also from “Heroes Invincible,” modeled after the Wood Elf Guardian.

Well, try to think of Soul Pets in a three-dimensional, realistic way. The style of the Soul Pets in Charming Pet generally tends to be: fierce, strong, wild, majestic, arrogant, nimble, charming, dark, brutal, violent, mysterious, scary, and so on. If, while reading Charming Pet, you can only think of cute, Q-version Soul Pets like Pokémon… it will feel weird because the looks of Soul Pets in the late stage will lean more towards the above-mentioned styles…

Actually, I really want to clarify something. The real blueprint for Charming Pet is Heroes Invincible, not Pokémon. The only similarity with Pokémon is that you can capture Soul Pets in the wild and that the master doesn’t participate in battles directly…

In fact, if Heroes Invincible learns the “Diplomacy Skill,” a new type of soldier can be obtained. During large map play, this is an essential skill for heroes. I like this feeling of subduing soldiers, so it was adapted fairly logically into capturing Soul Pets today. Also, in Heroes Invincible, the heroes don’t fight, they only cast magic and control the battle situation. The same idea was borrowed in Charming Pet.

In fact, the style of Charming Pet is not that different from other novels written by Little Fish. It has less emphasis on the mode of advancing levels by killing monsters, and more emphasis on being realistic and three-dimensional. Most descriptions use a God’s-eye view. This approach might not be as immersive, but it looks visually impressive and can give you plenty of room for imagination. This type of writing may have something to do with my personal preference of watching movies over reading books….
