After thoroughly fucking Arenade into submission, Kanae was back to feeling as good as new. The naked, high elven priest and former demigoddess laid on the ground, breathing heavily and face red like a tomato.

Edina was probably tying up loose ends before the big fight. In the meantime, they had other preparations to make. Kanae toggled Versatile Womb off since there was no need to birth anymore monsters. His crotch and belly was still sensitive. A single stroke of his stomach sent shivers through him.
Both of them went outside to find adventurers and guards alike working together. The area just outside of the gates was fortified with spiked barricades. There were much fewer citizens roaming about outside, only the vendors remained, who hoped to sell their stock and make a little more money before closing.
"Miss Aren! Miss Aren!"
A group of small, mixed race children mobbed them. They were dirty, had smudges on their faces, and wore clothes with holes and bugs crawling on them. Some among them were the same ones Kanae had seen begging for food in the market when he first came here. All of them, however, no longer had sunken cheeks or scrawny limbs.
To Kanae's surprise, Arenade, who was normally finicky about hygiene, welcomed them with open arms.
"Hey, kiddos! What's wrong?" Arenade smiled brightly, but her demeanor was in stark contrast to the children's anxiousness.
"Is it true that demons are going to attack the city?" an elven boy asked.
"Will we be okay? I heard demons can sniff you out, so there's no way to hide!" A beastman girl clenched tighter the teddy bear in her arms.
"Psh. There's nothing to be scared of. When the demons come, they will cower at my divine might! I won't let them touch a single hair on you." She bent down to ruffle the girl's hair, and her brave front cheered them right up.
The children's fears vanished and were replaced with hope. A few even began to role play being demons and adventurers, using sticks to perform a mock fight.
"If only you put more of that money into helping them than wine," Kanae teased.
"No amount of money I give them is going to help." Arenade sighed and watched on with a sad smile. "It won't stop the next generation from being born with dirt in their mouths, or convince bad parents not to throw their kids away. I can spend as much of my wealth on them as I can, but it won't do a damn thing."
Somehow, Kanae sensed that Arenade's words came from a much deeper place. It was as though she spoke from experience.
Arenade picked up the beast girl and said, "Let's all grab something to eat and get you washed up at Dreizel's— hm? Where's Potts? Does he have a tummy ache or something?"
The kids traded glances with each other and seemed unsure. Arenade counted them off in her head and began to worry.
"Potts went to the forest to pick flowers for you!" the girl in her arms said.
"I have to go find him." Arenade put her down.
"Must have gone into Turic. I'll go with you," Kanae said.
With all the guards, adventurers, and citizens out here helping at the gate, one of them must have seen a kid come through. At the same time, it was possible they were too busy to have seen a small child. As they were about to ask someone, Kanae shuddered to a strange sensation coming from the forest.
He used the Far Sight skill granted to him by the robes to see deep into the forest. While scanning the branches, he met the gaze of a flying red imp, who was looking through a scope. They were staring right at each other.
The imp recoiled and made a confused face, rubbed his own eyes, then looked through the lens again. Kanae pointed at the imp, the imp pointed at himself, then to Kanae.
"What the— Demons are already here!" Kanae shouted.
As if on cue, a horde of demons marched out of the forest. Screaming, the civilians ran back into the city. The guards and adventurers remained to fight, but they were all holding onto their weapons with trembling hands.
The monsters emerging from the forest were all sorts of demons from imps, hulking beasts, and other giants. Some didn't even look demonic in nature. There must be other races among their forces, like a coalition rather than a singular race.
"Potts!" Arenade screamed.
"Miss Aren!"
A beastman boy dangled helplessly in the thick hand of a red-skinned ogre, with horns on its head, and grinning from having caught fresh prey.
"Lady Dahlia sent us ahead to soften the city up, but it's looking like we might demolish the place before she even gets here!" the ogre bellowed.
"Damn it… We were out of time after all?" Kanae muttered.
