Chapter 268 - Welcome To The Family

Qing Lok woke up like he was the only person in the world that the sun shines for—but wait, of course, there was Liu Meilien.

When Qing Lok looked at the clock, he found that it was just a little after eight in the morning. Huh, this thing—whatever it was—was turning him into a morning person.

Everyone looked surprised that he showed up at breakfast with a huge smile on his face.

"Are you just about to go to sleep?" Qing Chen asked from the head of the table.

"Oh!" exclaimed Wuming who was letting the syrup ran freely capped the bottle. "What are you doing up?"

"I just woke up, what are you talking about?" he pulled the chair next to Wuming and found that he had no plate. Qing Chen waved a helper over which gave Qing Lok a set. "Wow, I didn't know you guys don't set the table for me."

"Well, your first meal of the day is always lunch," Qing Chen said. "Don't worry, starting tomorrow, we're going to force you out of the bed to join us for breakfast."

Feng Xuan was smiling. "I take it that things with Liu Meilien worked well last night?"

He excitedly shifted in his seat. "Oh, sister-in-law! You wouldn't believe it. It's like a dream."

"Well, what did you tell her? Tell us the details!"

Qing Lok tried to remember the events of last night but his face twisted. "I honestly don't remember all the things that I told her. I was too busy being nervous to think about it."

Feng Xuan's face expression changed. "Are you sure you told her what you have to tell her? Did you she understand you?"

"I guess she did. I told her I killed someone. You know what she said?" he grinned. "Next time, I should tell her about it, so she could help me bury a body."

Feng Xuan choked. It was not the kind of response that she was waiting on from her step-sister. Liu Meilien… so nice and soft and sweet and innocent GOING TO BURY A BODY. Just imagine how mortified her mother would be!

"Wuming," said Qing Chen. "You're quiet."

Wuming made a face. "My sweet morning just became bitter." They knew he was serious but his tone still kept some lightness in it. He turned to Qing Lok. "Now you have to marry her, if not, we're going to have to kill her."

"She won't tell anybody!" defended Qing Lok.

"We don't know that."

"If you want to kill someone, go ahead and chop someone else's head off."

Wuming smiled. "Qing Chen just put me on house arrest until we settled this. He was afraid I'd get ambushed. Seriously, he's more protective than father."

"I kind of agree. But he's okay."

"I'm right here," said Qing Chen as he sliced through his waffles. "If you're going to talk like I'm not here, you should just go to the other room and enjoy your breakfast there."

Wuming took a bite off the a sausage. "I'm done with breakfast." He pushed the chair backwards.

"But you're not done yet, there are a lot of kids starving, you know? Don't waste food."

"I don't feel hungry anymore after Qing Lok's announcement of a happy relationship." He reached and squeezed his youngest brother's cheeks together. "But I'm really happy for you. Now, I'm going to burn all these frustrations off. Adios."

Qing Lok glared at Wuming as he walked out of the dining area. "What the hell is wrong with him?"

Feng Xuan cleared off her plate. "I think I'm going to check in with my father right now. Enjoy your breakfast." She gave Qing Chen a knowing look and he nodded understandably.

She exited the kitchen and raced up the stairs. She needed to talk with Liu Meilien.

**

Liu Meilien was just fixing her morning tea when her phone rang. She picked it up, thinking it was Qing Lok. "Hey!" she said cheerfully.

"Hey!"

"Oh, Feng Xuan, you called."

"Disappointed much?" her step-sister laughed.

She guiltily chuckled. "Yeah, actually I already spoke to Qing Lok this morning. That's why I was a little surprised that my phone suddenly rang. So what's up?"

"Okay… so here's the thing… do you guys… did you understand what he was trying to tell you last night?"

It was as if Liu Meilien's stomach dropped to the floor. "You knew about it? I mean, the Qing's secrets?" she palmed her forehead. "Of course you do, you're married to one of them."

When Feng Xuan spoke, there was panic in her voice. "Did you fully grasp the things that you were told last night? Or did you decide on a spur of the moment kind of thing? I think Qing Lok would understand if you would retract your dec—"

"Feng Xuan," she said seriously. "I understood perfectly what he was trying to say."

"So it's okay to you that… he has killed someone?"

Last night, Liu Meilien's thoughts overcrowded her. It was like a throng of people asking for her autograph all at once. She was overwhelmed, shocked, and her mind went blank. When her mind went empty, her heart won and it told her that she wanted to be with Qing Lok despite.

"You know," she said and poured the tea on her cup, "I'm glad that you know about it. At least, I am not alone. To be honest, I am really scared. It was something that could throw him into jail. It was like he put his fate in my hands and… I don't think I'll be able to do that to him."

Feng Xuan pursed her lips. "I think you need to talk to my father—"

"Your father?!"

"I DON'T THINK YOUR MOM KNOWS so please don't tell her."

She sighed. "My lips are sealed."

"I'll ask father to talk to you." Feng Xuan's lips smiled warmly. "It's all going to be fine. Trust me. And… welcome to the family."
