Chapter 272 - Waiting For Us

The next few days had been dedicated to perfecting the plan. With the use of technology they had been able to send a blacked-out drone that helped them assess the property where The Zookeeper was.

They didn't want to risk getting too close as most probably, there would be alarms all over the place. They got a view of the whole property and had been able to create a better 3D model.

They were not able to find the blueprints in the government's database so they had Clown hunt down the architect and more or less convince him to hand everything over.

Qing Chen was right. There was nothing else underground.

Now he was walking around the table, thinking. "There has to be something. There has to be a trap there. They can't just let us come to them this way."

Wuming sighed. "Or maybe, they are too c.o.c.ky that they would be able to survive and kill us that's why they didn't mind giving away their location."

Qing Lok was tapping the table with a knuckle, also thinking, "But there's nothing suspicious here."

"Should we just believe this is like their suicide mission?" Feng Xuan asked. "I don't think that The Zookeeper was someone who would do that."

"But didn't he also say that he wanted to get his hands on you on the thirtieth? Maybe he can't wait to kill you either," shrugged Wuming.

"That's really comforting, Wuming," Feng Xuan said sarcastically.

"I mean, maybe it was just a one time big time thing. In the end, this is the kind of situation that we would find ourselves into. Why can't we just fast-forward and get it over with? We all know that we're the ones whose going to win, right?"

Qing Lok expressed his concerns. "We don't want to be so sure."

"Oh please," Wuming waved a hand. "If we're going to fall out of the sky, let me go first. I'll kill the first half of men in there in less than ten minutes."

Qing Chen only rubbed his temples. "You wanna die first? There are about fifty to sixty men inside those walls."

"I'll be fine," Wuming said. His words carried a hundred percent certainty that Feng Xuan almost believed it. "Besides, it was not like someone is going to miss me."

Qing Lok groaned. "Are you still feeling bitter about relationsh.i.p.s? Please don't get yourself killed over that woman."

"Don't worry, brother," Wuming said and ruffled his youngest brother's hair. "I don't have plans on dying because when I come back, I'm going to retire from this job and… settle down."

Six pairs of eyebrows seemed to shut to the roof.

"Do you mean that?" Qing Chen asked.

"Yeah, sure."

"Then… what are you gonna do with your life?"

Wuming shrugged. "Help you with the company? Finally take charge of Enigma so you can have your happy ever after?" he grinned. "I don't really know yet but I want to stay with you guys as much as I can. Because we never know… I might actually die."

Qing Chen sent Wuming a warning look. He could not leave hints like that around. Qing Lok might pick it up and throw a tantrum. They couldn't have him like that. Not when they're just about to hunt down The Zookeeper.

"What about you?" Wuming asked. "Just what are you going to tell your girl?"

"I don't know," Qing Lok answered and dismissively took a sip of his water. But it looked like he wanted to talk about it because he opened up the topic again. "I have no idea what to tell her. There's no guarantee that I'll come back."

"Don't look at me," chuckled Qing Chen. "My wife's going to be there in the frontlines with me."

Wuming snickered. "Yeah, Chen, rub it on our faces just how lucky you are."

Feng Xuan couldn't help but grin and the lightbulb moment happened. "When we get back, why don't we find you someone you can settle down with?"

"What, like, find me a date?"

"Yeah." Feng Xuan nodded. "But we're gonna have a few choices, because you know… we don't want you to go through what you did with your last try at a relationship."

"You mean," Wuming's face crunched, "find me an assassin girlfriend?"

"Why not?" Feng Xuan defended. "That way you're going to have a lot of things in common."

"I know you're new in the field, but there's an unspoken rule that you can't date your co-worker."

Feng Xuan laughed. "Well, sir, if you're not an assassin, you're a wealthy billionaire. I think that sounds really appealing, don't you think?"

"My dear sister-in-law," Wuming smiled at her like he understood where she was coming from, "not all the assassins are only in it for the money. There are just some people like me who just wants to kill people."

Feng Xuan tilted her head to the side. "I bet there was a face that flashed through your mind."

He shook his head, but just then, a certain blonde assassin flashed before his eyes. "Nope," he said to the image in his mind. "I didn't see anyone."

Feng Xuan grinned at him, she knew he was lying.

"Alright, children," Qing Chen said. "If you would just please stop bickering then maybe we can actually finish planning."

Feng Xuan held Qing Chen's hand. "We're going to be fine. You've thought about everything. We're going to get out there alive."

Qing Chen's other hand started fidgeting against his thigh. "There's going to be something waiting for us in that mansion."

"It's not going to be a bomb, is it?" asked Wuming.

"Oh so now you're afraid of a bomb?"

"Am not," he answered. "But if there's going to be a bomb that would blow us all up then… I just want to say it has been a pleasure meeting you all."

"It's not going to be a bomb. I think it's going to be a person."
