Chapter 375 - Just A Few More Dead Bodies

Feng Xuan was trying to tell herself that everything was fine. As much as normal went, she got down into the kitchen and pulled out a knife and started cutting. This would be the first time in a long time that she would using a knife that would not cut into human flesh.

It felt like it had been ages since she last cooked. It almost felt like it wasn't her kitchen. They hadn't been able to stay in this house since… she could not even keep track of everything that was happening in her life.

To be honest, she was getting tired with their current lifestyle. If this was what it meant to be a protagonist in an action film, then she wouldn't want to take part in it. It was hard living a life that was always on the run.

She was already pulling out the tray from the oven when Qing Chen finally went down. He had taken a long shower, probably still thinking about his mother.

She felt bad for him. If she were in his situation, she would not know how to react either. If she was him, she would already be in a pool of tears.

"You had a nice bath?" she asked him.

"Hmm," he answered her. "What's for dinner?"

"Roast pork," she said, placing a plate on in front of him.

For the first time since this morning, he smiled. "I miss your cooking."

"Yeah, I miss being in the kitchen too. I feels like it's uncharted ground after so long. But I'm sure I'll get the feel of it again."

"There's just too much going on."

She held his hand. "We're going to be able to get through this. One thing at a time, right?" She started cutting up the meat.

He nodded. "We're going to go back to the house tomorrow."

She recalled that he said he didn't want to talk about it. It was good that he was the one opening the conversation. "Are we going to start ending this?"

"There's no other choice. We have to help her."

"If we finish this, what's next?"

Qing Chen pursed his lips for a moment. "I don't know. She'll be gone again, I guess. She can't really rejoin the society. It'll raise a million questions."

"Do you want her to go?"

Qing Chen face winced. "I don't know yet, wife. But I don't feel good knowing what she did then letting her in back in our lives. Wuming and Lok wouldn't have left if they felt okay with it."

"But what if she wants to stay?"

"I don't think that's her decision anymore."

Feng Xuan was feeling nervous. Should she side with her mother-in-law? She had this urge to be able to help this family reunite with each other, but it seemed like there was nothing that she would be able to do.

Both of them were relieved when they shifted the conversation into something that was work-related. When dinner was over and Qing Chen was washing the dishes he said, "You know, it's been a while since we did something together. Is there something that you would like to do?"

Feng Xuan laughed at the question. "We should rest for tonight," she said. "It has been a while since we're alone and not thinking of anything heavy."

Well, there was still a lot to think about but at least the person that they were looking for was already here. That was a big problem out of their way.

Qing Chen chuckled at that. "Some good sleep then?" he wiped his hands on a towel. "We wouldn't know when we're going to get another night like this."

"That's why we're going to sleep." She poked his side. "Let's go upstairs."

Qing Chen was in a playful mood so he picked her up and carried her in his arms. Feng Xuan let a squeal in surprise. "What are we doing?"

"Nothing. I just want to touch you." He kissed the side of her head as he made his way upstairs easily. "Don't leave my side tonight."

"I won't EVER leave your side."

He toed the bedroom door open and kicked it close behind him. He set her down the bed and Feng Xuan felt like she was really home in this nice and comfortable bed.

"Let's sleep until noon tomorrow," she suggested.

"That would be nice," Qing Chen yawned as he got into bed with her.

She pressed a finger against his forehead. "I thought you wanted to do something. And you look like you're going to fall asleep faster than me."

"You're right. We should just sleep." He gave her a lazy smile, his eyes slowly fluttering close. "I feel like an old man right now. My super gorgeous wife is in bed with and we're not doing anything."

"It's fine," she said, running a hand through his hair. "We deserve a little rest."

Qing Chen got quiet. She thought that she was already falling asleep with the way her fingers were massaging his head and caressing his face, but then he opened his eyes slightly. "Am I that predictable?"

"What?"

"You already knew that I was going to help my mother earlier."

"Of course you will," she said with a slight smile. Her hand trailing to his neck. "You're that kind of person, Chen. You will help her."

He buried his face on the pillow. "I really need a new hobby other than helping people."

"That's not so bad," she laughed. "She's still your mother after all. No matter what happens, that's not going to change."

Qing Chen turned his face back to her again. "I don't know what would happen after we end this. I'm tired of having blood in our hands."

Feng Xuan wanted to say that she was also tired. She was done sending men to their deaths. But she didn't want to dishearten him. She breathed in. "Just a few more dead bodies. Then we're done."
