CH 19.1

Luo Tianyuan didn’t want to waste his time convincing an unmarried man about how adorable his daughter was. Just as he was about to hang up the phone, Guo Weikang brought up someone else.

“Wasn’t Qin Yutong doing a Masters in Shanghai? She had planned to do her PhD overseas and I’m not sure why she didn’t end up going. She’s now a core team member of her department in the company she’s working for. Her family has been desperately trying to find a partner for her. She herself isn’t very desperate, I’ve bumped into a few times and I always see her alone.” Guo Weikang sighed and said, “Actually, it’s quite a pity to see you guys separated. You guys almost got married, if it weren’t for that vixen.”

The vixen he was referring to was Luo Shuyan’s biological mother.

Luo Tianyuan hadn’t seen her in almost six years. If they didn’t have a child together, he wouldn’t have been able to recall having ever met someone like her.

Romance meant little to him.

However, despite that, Luo Tianyuan didn’t like it when his best friend talked badly about the mother of his daughter. He spoke in a low voice, “Enough, stop it. If that’s all, I’ll hang up now.“

Guo Weikang knew that he’d made Luo Tianyuan unhappy. He hurriedly apologized, “Brother, that wasn’t what I meant. I talked faster than my brain could catch up…”

After hanging up the phone, the cab came to a stop at the entrance of the hotel.

Luo Tianyuan was certain that the two children wouldn’t run all over the place. However, he still jogged towards the elevator and opened the hotel room door. He let out a sigh of relief when he saw the two children on the sofa watching television.

When he entered the room, Luo Shuyan and Shen Yan turned to look at him.

The children were absolutely adorable.

After all, one of them was his precious child. Luo Tianyuan happily walked forward and ruffled Luo Shuyn’s hair. “Are you hungry?”

Luo Shuyan pointed towards the rubbish bin.

She wasn’t really in the mood to talk as she was still overcoming the shocking discovery that she was born into a rich family.

Shen Yan replied in her stead, “We aren’t hungry, we had bananas, oranges, and also two cans of Jianlibao*.”

*Jianlibao (健力宝) is the first soda pop drink created in the Communist era in China.

“If you all aren’t hungry, I’ll bring you around the area shopping, after you’re tired from shopping, I’ll bring you for some roast duck.”

Instantly, Luo Tianyuan came to a conclusion about their schedule for the evening. It mainly consisted of shopping and eating.

Luo Shuyan, who usually went wild over shopping, excitedly agreed.

She generally didn’t pay much attention to what was happening around her. However, after what Shen Yan had told her today, she paid extra attention and realized that the clothing here wasn’t cheap. Despite that, her father had picked out a few dresses for her without a sign of conflictedness.

In this day and age, where an average person only earns a few hundred a month, he was either a father who really spoiled his children, or he was someone who couldn’t care less about the amount spent.

Luo Shuyan absent-mindedly headed to the fitting room with the dresses in hand. She knew that her father loved her, and she knew that he would buy anything for her as long as she asked for it.

So, she still wasn’t sure if her father loved her too much, or he simply couldn’t care less about the money.

Luo Tianyuan naturally took notice of Luo Shuyan’s expression.

It didn’t occur to him that his daughter might’ve found out about his secret. He looked down and at Shen Yan who was playing with a Rubik’s cube. “What’s up with her?”

Shen Yan looked up and answered calmly, “No need to worry, she must’ve been in shock.”

Luo Tianyuan wanted to laugh. “What could she be in shock about?”

Shen Yan didn’t want to answer him.

He knew that adults loved saying lies. Yet, adults were the ones who constantly reminded them that they had to be honest.

He recalled how confused Luo Shuyan was in the afternoon and said, “Because we think that adults enjoy telling lies.”

“…?”

He naturally assumed that the children were angry.

They had a point. He brought them along with him, and yet, he didn’t spend any time with them.

Luo Tianyuan promised, “Don’t worry, adults don’t have a habit of lying. I’ll spend all my time with you guys tonight and tomorrow. If you all aren’t tired, we can go to the Great Wall tomorrow. We might not have time to take you all to other tourist places. I’ll take you guys there next time.”

Shen Yan looked at Luo Tianyuan quietly. Just as Luo Shuyan exited the changing room, he nodded and said, “Uncle Luo, anything’s fine, as long as you’re happy.”

In the end, they spent around an hour in the shopping mall and went home with bags full of clothing.

Luo Tianyuan bought a new set of autumn and winter jackets for himself. He also bought a Western style woolen skirt and denim outfit for Luo Shuyan. Autumn was approaching, Luo Tianyuan, who was a huge fan of puffy dresses, still bought two for his daughter. On the other hand, despite Shen Yan’s efforts to decline Luo Tianyuan’s offer, Luo Tianyuan still ended up buying a set of denim clothing for him too.

“I think this is very similar to what Luo Shuyan has,” Shen Yan said.

Luo Tianyuan laughed in response. “Don’t worry, children’s clothing are always similar.”

The next day, the three of them took pictures in front of a famous monument before heading to the Great Wall. The restoration work was good, and the wall wasn’t as intimidating as it had seemed, and their fear of heights soon subsided.

They had to use both hands and feet to climb the Great Wall.

The two children were absolutely exhausted.

Shen Yan could hang in there throughout the long journey. He was panting and sweating all over, yet he didn’t request for a break. Luo Shuyan didn’t want to seem too effeminate either, so she forced herself to follow behind him.
