18 Hjordis

Faylen looked at her village. "Mommy and daddy are both alive, right?"

I once again patted Faylen's dark-green head with my right hand as I said, "If they are alive, I will save them and if they are not, I will bury them and take you with me."

Then, she wiped them off with the back of her right hand and I led her through the gates of the elven village. But just as we passed through them, a foul stench penetrated out nostrils and the sight of dead bloated elves with their innards scattered around them appeared all around us.

Faylen immediately puked on the ground below her feet and I unsheathed my two-handed swords, taking Hjordis into my left hand and the goblin's heavy sword into my right hand.

"Go behind me," I said.

Faylen raised her head, looked around and then looked at me. "But there are no goblins here," she said as she wiped the puke off her mouth.

"There are," I said as I pointed Hjordis towards the stomach of one of the dead elves. I used my skill >. My soul weapon got enveloped in a bright golden glow and then a blast shot out of it and towards the corpse.

"What are you doing, big sister Astrid?!"

Goblin laughter reverberated throughout the village.

Faylen hastily looked around. "Where are they?!" she shouted out.

"They are inside each and every one of these elves," I said as I put Faylen behind me.

"Wh—what?" Faylen said, and all but one elven corpses moved. Goblins started leaping out of them and she grabbed onto my apprentice sorcerer's robe with both of her hands.

I pointed Hjorids towards the goblin that just landed on the ground and used my skill, >. My soul weapon got enveloped in a bright golden glow and then a blast shot out of it and towards the goblin.

As the first notification message flashed in front of me, half of the goblins landed on the ground.

As the third notification message flashed in front of me, the other half of the goblins landed on the ground and the goblins which shouted out earlier, charged at me.

I pointed Hjordis towards one of the fast-approaching goblins and used my skill, > on it.

"Are you all blind?!" It shouted. "Do you lot think that you can kill someone that has killed my good brother Bil the smasher?" It clicked its tongue. "What an idiot. The demon god offered him power, but he turned it down. And now both he and his followers are dead."
