Chapter 98 Detection

As planned, Aion flew above the city and slowly fell into one of the many dark alleys of the place. Seriously, Aion couldn't help but sigh… why did people back in the day and even now allow so many dark alleys to exist? It is the perfect place for low-lives to do their low-life business… It was a complicated feeling since Aion was using a lot of them lately.

It was early in the evening, and a lot of people were still around, so Aion couldn't move freely without risking being seen. Aion's only option was to put the experience he got while playing that famous hiding and climbing game and cross the city using the roof of the buildings around.

"This place is too damn big… I bet I will find more prisoners here, and the damage will be higher, but… leaving will be hard," Aion thought. "Come to think of it, that messenger worked for the family that lives here… what was their name again? In any case, this city is at least five times bigger than mine, and they still had the nerve to ask for territory for free…"

It was interesting to see the city at night from slightly above… Aion could see some people coming and going, and despite that, they never even tried to look above. The lights of the city could only spread so far, so they never tried to look at the darkness, and Aion used that to his favor… and eventually reached the central part of the city.

Instead of warehouses, Aion found some fancy houses. They were made of high-quality bricks. Even the roads were using bricks differently than usual. That area had many mines, so they were using those materials to stand out. Regardless, it didn't look like Aion would find a prison there.

"Maybe I should keep an eye on this area for a while… see if anyone suspicious will come and go and then follow them," Aion rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Although he said to his mother that he could do it, Aion realized that he didn't have enough skills for that kind of job… he wasn't in a hurry since his attack was only going to start around midnight. Still, the better he finds his destination, the better.

After three hours, Aion realized that he really needed to level up the Slayer and Archer classes. Perhaps they would help him with that kind of work in the future. He thought of that because he didn't make any progress in that short window of time.

"I need to attack this place tonight, and I can't afford to waste any time… but with my skills…" Aion thought while wondering what else he could do. "I feel like I letting the system do too much for me…"

Aion didn't want to let anyone see him using magic, but perhaps he could do something to deal with that problem using his mother's family magic. He recalled a few days ago the feeling that he had of control and familiarity when he controlled that massive boulder… he just had to do something similar.

"I doubt that my mana can cover the entire city, but it is worth the try, I can recover it in half an hour and then test it on other areas," Aion thought as he landed on a dark alley and then began to concentrate while touching the ground.

Instead of doing the whole process of giving his shape to his mana outside his body and then using his feelings to transform it, Aion just made it cover the ground of the area. All of a sudden, he felt the footsteps of many people like they were walking in the palm of his hands. He stopped for a moment since he imagined that some mages might notice his mana. While he felt some magic presence that had a lot of it, they didn't react in any way…

"Come to think of it. Mages are usually known for their power and tactical use in battles, not for their ability to track enemies…" Aion thought while recalling a book that mentioned the subjects that students had in the magic school.

Aion tried again, and this time, he tried to look for presences below… it was good that he currently had a build completely focused on magic power. Otherwise, he wouldn't have pulled that off. His mana calmly pierced the ground and moved downward, but he found nothing within a two kilometers radius… the central area of the city didn't have what he was looking for.

Aside from the central area, the eastern side of the city looked the most suspicious one… since it was the area that had most of the warehouses. Aion found some guards there as well. So, after recovering his mana, Aion did the same thing, made his mana penetrate the ground… it didn't take long, and he got a result. There are some small movements underground…

"I guess I found a lot of people living underground… but I can't tell where the entrance to those locations is…" Aion thought.

Aion didn't have much time left before the Scarlet Tigers started the attack… if they attacked, actually. It didn't seem like Aion had any other choice but to use his magic. Fortunately, he knew how to leave the least few vestiges as possible.

After approaching the area above the prison that he found, Aion created an ice spear and then made it spin before it reached the ground. Some noise was made, but it was only noticeable by people that were really close by, like a few meters away from Aion. The spear was that sharp, and it was spinning that fast, so the ground didn't show much resistance.

Despite that, Aion had to prevent the dust and sand that from spreading around. He sealed those inside some earth bricks that he made and then hid in the back of the dark alley. Anyone who finds that later will only find some abandoned bricks once Aion seals the hole with his own magic. Once the hole was five meters deep, Aion stopped moving since he could feel some presence below moving. It wasn't like the guards had noticed something, but their numbers were decent… at least ten of them.
