Chapter 175 Bad Feeling

The group headed to the largest mansion in the city. The place didn't have proper walls. Instead of that, they had metal bars, and Aion could feel mana coming from them. They probably would damage anyone that tried to jump over them.

"I will make you fly to the top of the Mansion. Once you notice the guards falling, then you need to start moving," Aion declared. "If you find the target, but you are doubting his words, then open a window and then knock him unconscious. We will take him with us, but we can't afford to let him see my magic."

"I have a bad feeling about those metal bars," Sauros said.

"I checked their range with my mana. They create a pseudo barrier to attack everything that approaches them from above," Aion said. "However, the barrier isn't perfect like that around the temple. It is in the shape of a square instead of a sphere. You can pass above it if you fly high enough."

Although they were well versed with magic, they couldn't tell that kind of thing just by looking at the barrier. Still, they decided to trust Aion since they didn't have time. As planned, he made them fly pretty high before they approached the mansion. They were sweating cold all the time, but then they sighed in relief when they landed on the ceiling.

Aion confirmed that they couldn't see him, and then he summoned Lerg and Urgen. He also made them move to the sides of the mansion. Then, they began to attack using their long ranged techniques.

The guards raised their weapons when they saw their allies being killed, but there wasn't much that they could do when they couldn't see the enemies. They did the only thing they could…

"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"

A bit too fast for Aion's tastes, they noticed the direction the attacks were coming from and then assumed defensive stances to block them. They managed to block some arrows and wind blades while they retreated to the entrance of the mansion. However, when they were about to cross the gates, something jumped in the middle of them… it was a tall creature covered in dark armor. It was Caelis, and with a single swing of his weapon, he beheaded the guards.

Aion made Caelis disappear before anyone could notice his presence. Some guards left the mansion, and he also could hear the sound of armor approaching in the distance, but that was fine. That was within his plans, anyway.

Aion changed his class again and then equipped his bow and prepared Power Shot. After a while, a group of soldiers approached and found the guards near the entrance of the mansion, checking the bodies. Their shields were raised, but not a single attack was coming. However, a powerful arrow landed in the middle of their group after piercing the body of five soldiers. The impact of the arrow on the ground created a shockwave that sent all the nearby soldiers flying for a couple of meters. At least ten of ten died, and the more ten were heavily wounded.

"Not yet?" Aion thought while looking at the mansion.

Some lights had been lit there, but Aion couldn't see any windows opening. Considering what he told them, those two certainly were taking their time… A second and third group had enough time to approach before those guys finally opened the window. Aion saw them with someone, and so did the soldiers. They all tried to rescue the target, but then Aion fired another arrow from behind them. The impact made them fly once again, and while they were almost fainting, Aion made an earth platform appear in front of his allies, and then he made them fly upward.

When the guards and soldiers got up, those three had disappeared. They looked to all sides in confusion. Meanwhile, Aion and the others were flying toward the northern part of the city, where the target told them that the prisoners were supposed to be.

"You guys took your time," Aion said.

"Due to our changed appearance, he thought that we were regular bandits," Seris said. "I had to break a few of his bones before the negotiation could start."

"Yeah, negotiation…" Aion said.

It looked like the council of merchants had decided to take their time torturing the spies and gathering more intel regarding Herandins' family. It didn't look like they had told much, but everyone realized who they were working for once they took all of their items, including the magic items that changed their appearances.

Aion didn't like that. Sauros said that those families had at least one kid… that kind of thing might scar them for life, mentally and physically. In the end, they reached their destination. It was a very suspicious warehouse… it looked to be abandoned, and that was why it looked out of place…

"I think they might have expected that you would come to rescue them…" Aion said.

"... True… they would only keep them in a place like this if they had imagined that we would come," Sauros said. "Maybe someone has noticed that we come to get intel regularly… or someone already spoke about us."

"If their kids were about to be tortured, then it couldn't have been helped…" Seris said.

"Yes, we can think about this later," Sauros said.

Instead of worrying about the fact that someone revealed about those two, Aion was more worried that they might be walking into a trap. They surprised the enemies more than a little bit, but they didn't have enough time to check what they would have in stock for them… so they might face some real problems as well.

"We should question this guy again, even if he doesn't say much. We can tell a few things with his expressions alone," Aion said. "Let's enter the warehouse before we do that. This time, I will go with you since I have a bad feeling about this…"
