CH 10.2

Soft (2) – unedited

The game entered the matching mode. The trace of heat on Xue Lan’s face dissipated. He swiftly chose the chip attributes that were more useful at the earlier level.

Dawn of the Apocalypse’s survival battle was one of the ways to level up for a beginner account. It similarly would match five people at random and numerous players would simultaneously be thrown into a large map. In the first ten minutes, large masses of zombies would pour out of each monster point, and there would be a player protection mechanism that disabled players from attacking other players during this period of time.

After ten minutes, the main city would respawn the boss and players could start attacking each other. This would be the real battlefield.

Xue Lan, Duan Wenzheng, and the teammates matched at random were allocated to the hinterland of “Burial Icefield”. The distance from the boss’ respawn point was not far, so it was not bad.

They decided to clear the monsters first before going to the boss’ respawn point.

Xue Lan cleared the monsters very quickly. When Duan Wenzheng saw the zombies nearby had been pretty much cleared up, he put away his rifle and went to look for a car nearby.

“Huh?”

But he was gone for a long time. Xue Lan wondered why he hadn’t come back when he heard a small sigh from the headset that sounded a little uncertain.

“Is something the matter?” Xue Lan nervously asked.

“It’s nothing, you can clear the monsters first.”

Duan Wenzheng’s voice returned to being calm. Xue Lan thought it was still the player protection period, he wouldn’t encounter any trouble, so he brushed off his thoughts and continued clearing the monsters.

But after he was done, Duan Wenzheng still had not returned. Seeing that it was about time for the system to remove the player protection, Xue Lan opened the private message window.

Exist: Where are you?

Exist: I’ll go find you.

“Coming.”

Just as his message was sent, Duan Wenzheng’s somewhat languid voice came through the headset.

Xue Lan let out a relieved sigh. He didn’t wait long when he saw Duan Wenzheng drive a car and stop beside him. He leaped into the car and they headed toward the boss’ respawn point.

Exist: Did something happen a while ago?

The cross-country vehicle crossed the white icefield. The ten-minute restriction had been lifted. Gigantic dense fog gradually spread over the sky of Burial Icefield. Xue Lan remembered Duan Wenzheng’s uncertain voice earlier and calmly asked while he drove.

“It’s nothing, it took some time to find a car.”

Xue Lan felt doubtful. There were three cars near the place they landed on. It was impossible Duan Wenzheng did not know about this, so why did he take such a long time…

While he was feeling doubtful, two figures slowly emerged from the fog ahead. Xue Lan heard a familiar energetic shout from the headset:

“I opened this path, I planted these trees! If you want to go past, leave…”2

“Bang bang bang—”

Before that person could finish speaking, the two figures blocking the road collapsed in the midst of the sound of the rifle.

“Fuck?!”

“Isn’t Zheng-ge driving?! He can’t open fire, how did we die?!”

Because the familiar voice was too loud, this time, it not only came from the mic close by but also resounded in the group voice chat…

Xue Lan recoiled. “The two just now…”

Duan Wenzheng said as if he didn’t hear the roar behind him, “These online friends’ skills are no good.”

“…” Pang Zi finally groused, “Skills are no good?! You dare to say you didn’t see it was me?”

“I’m driving, of course I’m focusing on the road, why should I look at you?”

“I know—you figured it was us who drove off the cars so you forced her to fire! Lady! Don’t be led astray by him!”

“Oh?” As if Duan Wenzheng was clueless, he asked, “You drove off the nearby cars?”

“…”

Hearing the wails behind Duan Wenzheng, Xue Lan was both awkward and smiling, but he really didn’t notice it was Pang Zi and Lao Qi who were blocking them.

Exist: Was I not supposed to fire?

“Nah, they specially came running to gift you experience, you simply accepted it.”

“…Duan! Wen! Zheng!!!”

Xue Lan listened to their bickering and the corners of his mouth unconsciously lifted. He really admired this kind of banter between friends. Even more admiring was that, wherever Duan Wenzheng went, he would always have genuine brothers by his side.

Duan Wenzheng turned a deaf ear and continued driving toward the city.

But he didn’t rush toward the boss and instead after he approached the boss, he went around the city that was mostly covered with ice to specially let Xue Lan eliminate the parties who came rushing to clear the boss. After all, in the survival battle, the boss was not a critical part of gaining experience—the number of kills and survival time were the most important.,

Duang Wenzheng charged through the frozen city, but in this unstable environment, Xue Lan still steadily held the rifle and his marksmanship in the speeding car seemed to be even more steady and skillful. When the surrounding players were pretty much cleared, Duan Wenzheng immediately drove toward the monster boss that had already been stirred and drove around the terrain to create opportunities for Xue Lan.

The speeding car upset the groups that were killing the boss. Each group that was originally fighting the monster and killing each other seemed to be in one mind as they focused on that cross-country vehicle that was running amok.

Less than 20% HP was left of the boss. To prevent the boss from escaping, each of them left someone to keep attacking the boss before simultaneously aiming the main firepower toward that car!

Duan Wenzheng saw the gunfire coming toward them from all around and with a voice that remained unconcerned, he chuckled. “Sit tight—”
