Team (2) – unedited

“I guess this team just won’t do.” Duan Wenzheng looked at the names with a one rank apart and chuckled.

Only after realizing that not many people were left that had not found a group, did Xue Lan recall his shock. He stopped three trainees who had teamed up and asked again, “Do you want to join us? We’re one assaulter and one sni…”

Each of them darted their gaze to one side. After much hesitance, someone said, “Both of you are strong, but everyone came to the training camp with a dream to join a professional team. Um…”

Xue Lan said, “Last time was just an accident, we can just win back in the later matches…”

“I hate to break it to you, but look at the first place, the person has 137 points.” That person couldn’t help but said, “Not to mention that the top rankings can team up, even if they have people whose results aren’t ideal, they will still have four hundred points at minimum, right? But you and your teammate…you only have 34 points in total…you’re about two hundred points less than the other teams.”

“…”

“I’ve posted a blog to clarify that there was a misunderstanding with Reset before. His sniping is actually remarkable and he didn’t cheat.” That person awkwardly continued, “But you’re also aware that the team results are also important. In this game, teammates and individual skills are equally important…”

“I got it.” Xue Lan also did not want to make things difficult for him, so he smiled and said, “I understand.”

The three were apologetic as they left. Xue Lan looked dejected. While he was secretly encouraging himself again with his head lowered, someone shyly asked, “Can I…join your team?”

Xue Lan’s eyes brightened. He looked up at that young man. The young man standing before him was actually the person who first gave him the candy.

“Of course you can!!”

He put down the name of the young man in the form as he tugged Duan Wenzheng in jubilance. “Look, we still have hope!”

But Duan Wenzheng glanced at the name he had just written and turned his gaze toward the scoring table hung above. His smile deepened. “Alright, the three people at the bottom have now gathered.”

“…”

Xue Lan looked up at the scoring table…Indeed, the name placed in between both of them was the name he just wrote down—Su Yiyu.

“Um…” Xue Lan awkwardly smiled. “It doesn’t matter, every person who is in the training camp is an elite player. The difference between the top few and the last isn’t that big.”

“Mm.”

Duan Wenzheng was simply going along with his words, but his smiling gaze made Xue Lan’s cheeks flush. He looked away.

“Can I join your team?”

The conversation between the two of them was interrupted by a voice. Xue Lan felt this voice sounded familiar. When he looked up in surprise: “It’s you!”

It was the medic who spoke to him at the duel soon after entering the club.

His eyes curved with his smile. “Qi Siyu, medic, 129 points.”

Xue Lan was struck dumb.

He didn’t know if he was surprised because a medic was willing to join this team of three people at the bottommost in the situation where medics were lacking, or because this medic had one of the highest scores reaching 129 points, or because of…the name Qi Siyu that he remembered.

The main medic Qi Siyu of the Thunder Team. After Deng Ruiqiu was resold, the Thunder Team changed their strategy and started to practice the 4-protect-1 medic tactic.

Qi Siyu’s medic was fierce and he was a rare medic talent.

But whether or not it was because Xue Lan did not like the Thunder Team, it was hard for Xue Lan to have good opinions toward this person.

Qi Siyu seemed to make out his unnatural expression. Xue Lan only recalled from his thoughts when Qi Siyu softly called for his attention.

“Do you really want to join us? Us…three’s total points is only 40.”

Qi Siyu nodded. “I trust you two’s operation.”

Xue Lan looked at the smiling and genial Qi Siyu and gratefully nodded. He felt that he should not have conflicts with a person who was not really pointed out in the original work just because he disliked the team.

He wrote down Qi Siyu’s name on the form.

Qi Siyu’s joining also brought in the fairly high-scorer assaulter Meng Weiran. The total points of the five people crawled up to 288. The difference they had with the number one team of 593 points was…305 points.

Xue Lan saw his teammates wearing heavy expressions as they stared at the team scoreboard. He was not good at comforting people, but he was the reason for everyone’s current predicament, so he pretended to be calm as he said:

“Although we have a gap of 305 points with the first team, we’re only behind by less than two hundred from the second team, and not much difference with the last team. Taking over the rank won’t be a problem!”

“…Mm.” Qi Siyu reluctantly smiled. He answered after thinking, “You know the rules for the team match right? We can draw lots to blindly select our opposing team, or choose to challenge a team that is more than 50 points than us. The good thing is, among all the groups, we have the least points, so we can choose to challenge a team.”

“It really is a good thing,” said Duan Wenzheng.

“And because of the large difference of 50 points, if we win, according to the rules, we can exchange points with the opposing team.”

“What? Exchange?!” Si Yiyu gasped.

Xue Lan was surprised. Duan Wenzheng’s slack expression also dropped.

In the original story, this section of the training camp was just a few sentences describing Duan Wenzheng breaking through the obstacles and the subtle change in his and Wen Yan’s feelings, so he did not know the specific rules for this match.

But if this was the case…it was a teriffic thing for them.

Qi Siyu continued, “I’ve looked at these teams’ profiles, this one team has 80 more points than us, but their skill is slightly inferior. We can challenge them, if we win we can have 368 points immediately…”

He had not finished speaking when Duan Wenzheng suddenly interrupted him. “If we’re the first to choose our opponent for the match, why don’t we directly challenge the first team?”
