CH 63

Shen Siwei and Klet’s current state aside, the remains of the photonic radiator scattered around didn’t seem right no matter how you looked at it.

The two guards by the door immediately stepped forward, shielding Rita behind them. But Rita only said, “Wait outside,” then she passed by the two men and walked inside the hall.

Rita approached the two men, dragging her trailing cloak, and stopped about a meter away, saying, “I know who the killer is.”

As she spoke, there was no emotion on her face, and her intentions were not clear.

Shen Siwei and Klet glanced at each other, then both stood up from the ground. Shen Siwei brushed off the dust from his hands and asked Rita, following her words, “Who is it?”

“Adolf,” Rita moved her lips slightly and gave out the name bluntly.

Unexpected, yet not entirely surprising.

“When Miller died,” Shen Siwei reminded, “Adolf was with me the whole time.”

“He could have assigned someone else,” Rita said.

“Do you have proof?” Shen Siwei asked.

” he had a motive,” Rita’s speech remained steady, as if she had a hundred percent certainty. “Adolf always wanted to expand the business scope, but Miller had always disagreed. From what I know, Adolf had already bribed the top three officials and wanted to force his father to step down.”

Shen Siwei recalled the family disputes mentioned in Amor’s diary. Adolf considered the business perspective and believed that artificial embryos could generate huge profits. However, Miller rejected Adolf’s ideas from a political standpoint.

Rita supported Adolf on the matter of artificial embryos because she wanted to have her own child. But now she was pointing fingers at Adolf, and her underlying motives were interesting.

“Can motive be considered as evidence?” Klet turned his head to Shen Siwei and asked, conveying his dissatisfaction.

Shen Siwei understood that Klet was venting his frustrations, so he didn’t respond and continued questioning Rita, “Since he has already bribed the top three officials, why would he kill Miller?”

“Miller would never willingly step down,” Rita said. “He used various medical methods to prolong his life, just to sit in the leader’s position for a long time.”

“So Adolf realized he couldn’t force Miller to step down and decided to take drastic measures?” Shen Siwei asked.

Seemed quite believable.

“When someone broke into the top level today,” Rita spoke expressionlessly, glancing at Klet, showing her dislike for this sudden illegitimate child, “I heard that Adolf was overseeing everything outside.”

“Yes,” Shen Siwei said.

“Don’t you find it strange?” Rita furrowed her brows slightly. “His father was inside the house. Why would he take charge of these matters?”

Shen Siwei recalled that Adolf indeed naturally went to the forefront, without even wondering why Miller wasn’t present at the scene.

Logically speaking, his father should have been the head of the household. It didn’t make sense for Miller not to come out and investigate when someone broke into the top level. Adolf’s behavior seemed as if he knew Miller wouldn’t come out.

In that regard, Adolf seemed suspicious.

Shen Siwei temporarily put aside his doubts and asked, “Did you inform the security officer about all this?”

“No,” Rita said. “That person is Adolf’s friend.”

At that point, Shen Siwei had already understood why Rita came to find him. Rita had no children and was a newcomer in this family, and her only backing was Miller. The reason she wanted a child was also to guard against a situation like today—she might be kicked out by Adolf.

“You want me to help you,” Shen Siwei exposed Rita’s thoughts.

“I believe you also need my help,” Rita said.

As she spoke, Rita hesitated slightly. After coming here, she discovered that Shen Siwei and Klet didn’t seem to need her help.

But more hands were always welcome.

Shen Siwei looked at Klet beside him and saw that he had no objections. He then said to Rita, “You want me to use our connections to let the civilians know that Adolf is the murderer of Miller, right?”

“Yes,” Rita said, “I know about your situation, and I can provide you with an oxygen mask.”

“Not needed,” Shen Siwei said casually, then continued, “I must remind you that your suspicions alone are not enough to prove that Adolf is the killer. If this matter is made public without thorough preparation, public opinion could easily be altered.”

Shen Siwei had witnessed Adolf’s cunning tactics. If they showed even a slight flaw, Adolf would seize the opportunity.

“So, what do you suggest?” Rita asked.

“We hope to establish that Miller’s death was a suicide,” Shen Siwei didn’t conceal this point because with Rita’s help, confirming suicide would be much easier. However, he didn’t disclose the whole plan and only said, “Think it through first.”

“It can’t be ruled as suicide,” Rita frowned, reacting as Shen Siwei had expected. “Miller never considered dying, so he didn’t make any arrangements for his inheritance. Now, most of the wealth is in Adolf’s hands, and I can’t compete with him.”

Pausing for a moment, she looked at Klet and said, “The same goes for you. You probably won’t even get any leftovers.”

“Who the fuck wants your leftovers,” Klet replied impatiently.

“Think again,” Shen Siwei said to Rita, “you don’t hold the cards”

“What do you mean?” Rita asked with a tense expression.

“If you don’t cooperate with me, just as you said, you won’t be able to outsmart Adolf,” Shen Siwei said calmly, “I’m the only one who can help you bring Adolf down. You have to work with me to get rid of him.”

“Wouldn’t it be better to make him the murderer?” Rita countered.

By using the word “make,” she indicated that she couldn’t be 100 percent sure that Adolf was the killer in Miller’s death. However, from her perspective, she had to pin the blame on Adolf.

It was true that they were evenly matched when it came to shifting blame.

But Rita’s perspective was narrow; her intentions were only focused on her immediate interests, and she failed to see the deeper consequences .

“I just said that making Adolf the murderer is a risky move unless you can provide solid evidence,” Shen Siwei said, “The safest approach for now is to establish Miller’s suicide as a fact, which gives us a chance to turn the tables.”

Rita lowered her gaze and pondered for a moment, then furrowed her brows slightly and asked, “What do you mean by ‘turn the tables’?”

She finally understood Shen Siwei’s strategy.

To be honest, if she couldn’t even realize this, Shen Siwei wasn’t sure whether he should cooperate with her. Though having more allies was not a problem, they had to be competent. Shen Siwei didn’t want someone who couldn’t see the bigger picture and would only hold them back.

“Your first lady position is definitely in trouble,” Shen Siwei casually remarked.

Rita took a deep breath, suppressing her emotions, and asked, “So when you said I have no choice, you meant my position is not secure?”

“If Adolf takes power, you won’t be able to keep your position or wealth,” Shen Siwei said, “If you choose to stand by my side, I can at least guarantee that your rightful properties will not be snatched.”

After Nightingale overthrew the Marg government, Rita would only become an ordinary Marg citizen. But even if Nightingale failed and Adolf took power, Rita’s fate would be the same.

In other words, Rita’s destiny was sealed at the moment her husband died. But if she was a smart person, she would know that the enemy of her enemy is her friend, and she had to choose to cooperate with Shen Siwei to gain the maximum benefit.

Rita let out a sigh and asked, “What do you need me to do?”

It seemed she chose to compromise.

“Miller’s death is not considered a suicide due to the sleeping pills found in his blood,” Shen Siwei said, “You just need to testify that he did take sleeping pill willingly, and we can make Adolf speechless.”

“But perhaps it’s better to accuse Adolf as the murderer,” Rita said unwillingly, “If we prove it was suicide, it will only prevent him from achieving his goal, but if we make him the murderer, we can directly get rid of him”

“If it’s that easy to get rid of him,” Shen Siwei said, “Why would you seek my help?”

“…Fine,” Rita finally gave up,

The three of them left the multipurpose hall and walked through the long corridor towards the main building. With Rita by their side, the guards along the way didn’t dare to stop Shen Siwei and Klet, but they wore puzzled expressions.

Miller’s private residence was very large, taking several minutes to walk from the annex to the main building. Through the window, Shen Siwei saw security vehicles parked on the lawn, indicating that Adolf was discussing with the security officials how to frame him and Klet as the culprits.

“By the way,” Rita suddenly turned her head while walking ahead and looked at Shen Siwei, asking, “Aren’t you curious about who the murderer is?”

To claim he wasn’t curious would be a lie, but for now, Shen Siwei could be certain that Rita was definitely not the killer.

Miller’s death had no benefits for Rita. If she was the killer, she could have easily forged a will instead of leaving behind a useless suicide note.

Speaking of which, although Adolf was highly suspicious, the suicide note was also strange.

If the goal was to make Miller’s death a suicide, there were many other more suitable reasons, such as being unable to withstand public pressure, among others. The suicide note, on the other hand, felt very contradictory because Miller shouldn’t have felt sorry.

“After you achieve your goal,” without waiting for Shen Siwei’s answer, Rita continued, “Can you help me find out who killed Miller?”

Shen Siwei himself was somewhat curious and replied, “Okay.”

Next to him, Klet, who was also intrigued but rarely engaged in conversation with Rita, asked, “Who do you think might be the killer, aside from Adolf?”

Rita shifted her gaze forward and continued walking towards the main building, saying, “Every person inside this mansion.”
