Twin Fish [Translator]13-16 minutes

The results came out the next morning. Gu Xie had been the one to pick them up. Gu Xie hadn’t gone back at all last night. He spent all night pacing back and forth in the hallway of the testing center. Gu Xie picked up the results within minutes after they were available. He glanced at the report. On the very first page, there was a bright red stamp confirming biological relation that was impossible to miss.

Gu Xie gave one look at the report before dashing up the stairs to hand it to Mrs. Gu. He couldn’t really describe what mood he was in at that moment. He thought about a lot of things as he went up the stairs, but, at the same time, he wasn’t thinking anything at all. His only thought was that there just so happened to be exactly two rooms on the third floor of their house and that he’d have to go back and tidy the other room up. Kp0NbY

Gu Xie lived on the third floor. Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu lived on the second floor.

Mrs. Gu wasn’t all that surprised when she saw the report because she had already pretty much decided on what she thought was the truth. Undergoing testing was more so for Gu Qingchi’s sake than it was for Mrs. Gu’s. She took one glance at the report and handed it over to Gu Qingchi.

Mrs. Gu looked very calm. Gu Qingchi, on the other hand, seemed to be having a hard time believing it. He stared at the scarlet stamp on the report for a very long time, repeatedly confirming that the names listed were right. In the end, he looked up at Mrs. Gu and, like a nervous animal, asked for confirmation once more.

“Is this for real?” xHCbws

Once he got an affirmative reply, he paused before asking again.

“Could it have been a mistake? Should — should we do it again?”

He practically whispered the latter half of his sentence. His voice was so soft that it could hardly be heard. He was like a child who was trying to be generous but was still reluctant to part with his candy. He was saying that he was fine with it, but, in reality, he was on the verge of tears.

Mrs. Gu patiently explained away all of his doubts. She told him about how trustworthy and accurate the report was. Finally, she told Gu Qingchi.

“You are my child. There is no doubt about it.”

Gu Qingchi sat there, staring at Mrs. Gu. Big fat tears rolled down his cheeks and onto the blanket. Mrs. Gu reached out to wipe his tears with the back of her hand, but his tears were never-ending.

“Don’t cry. Mom is here to take you home.”

Xie Luyu took all of this in, quietly watching from the side. He almost stepped forward when Gu Qingchi started crying. It wasn’t until Gu Qingchi cracked a wet smile that his heart was finally able to settle down. kHdhZu

His tensed up nerves relaxed at this moment, and he also started smiling.

During the first half of the hospital stay, Xie Luyu and Ye Li accompanied Gu Qingchi. During the second half of the hospital stay, Xie Luyu took turns with Mr. Gu and Gu Xie accompanying Gu Qingchi.

They all knew why Gu Qingchi was hospitalized. Xie Luyu was acutely aware of what Gu Qingchi was worried about. The very next day, Xie Luyu bought a bunch of wristbands, watches, even silk scarves to tie around his wrist. They all tacitly agreed not to mention it. Meanwhile, Xie Luyu found an opportunity to give a copy of Gu Qingchi’s medical records to Gu Xie.

“He prefers to go to the doctor by himself. If anyone else tries to go with him, he’ll get angry. He doesn’t really like going to the hospital, and he also doesn’t like the hospital doctors since they make him nervous. He does like the doctor that he’s seeing right now. I’ve included the address in there. Make sure to pay attention to any changes in his mood but don’t make it too obvious and don’t complain. If he feels that he’s caused you trouble, he’ll get depressed …” jamo2B

“… He’ll eat sweet dishes such as sweet and sour pork ribs, but he doesn’t like them. He likes eggplants. He likes spicy food, but he can’t eat spicy food. He dislikes bland congee, but he dislikes congee with sugar in it even more.”

Xie Luyu spoke about everything in great detail. It sounded rather complicated, but it was also very normal in content. He paused a bit at the end. His very last exhortations finally revealed a bit of the cruel reality of the situation.

“He can’t have any sharp objects in his room, no scissors, no fruit knives, no nothing. Make sure to remove any scissors from the first aid kit. It’s best for bandages to be cut up in advance. Don’t leave any dangerous medicines in a place where he can access them. If you have upper levels in your house, make sure the windows on the upper levels aren’t too big. If the windows are big, add a protective net. Don’t make the room too stifling. It’s best to remove a curtain or two so that there’s always some sun in the room. Decorate the room in warmer colors. Don’t place any decorative vases in the room.”

Gu Xie was already recording everything he was saying. He planned on going back and putting this all down on paper. They had already started fixing up the other room on the third floor. This stuff would need to be dealt with while they were still decorating. KwXQ0o

At this point, Mrs. Gu was probably the only one who still believed that Gu Qingchi was in the hospital for stomach problems.

On the day of Gu Qingchi’s discharge, Mrs. Gu arrived early. She specifically picked out a car that was both spacious and comfortable to pick up Gu Qingchi. She also brought a large cooler. Inside the car, there was a small refrigerator that was packed full of food and a large blanket.

He had spent the past couple of days in the hospital, and he had accumulated quite a few items in that span of time. His hospital room, which had been a small individual suite, had completely changed. It hardly even looked like a hospital ward anymore. In fact, it looked as though it had been entirely redecorated. However, the process of returning the room to its original appearance wasn’t quite as much fun. Gu Qingchi was to be discharged from the hospital at noon, so the men started packing things up in advance. They acquired a few boxes early that morning. They then started packing things away. Gu Xie packed very slowly. He could even be described as clumsy as he hadn’t done much of this before. He’d pretty much only ever packed his suitcase for business trips at the most. Xie Luyu, on the other hand, had a bit of experience in packing. However, the most surprising of them all was Mr. Gu. He was actually rather good at packing stuff away. Nearly half of the luggage had gone through his hands.

Gu Qingchi had originally wanted to help. However, just as he pulled a box over and was about to pack, Mr. Gu passed by and blocked him with his foot. Mr. Gu was holding two boxes in his hands and was just about to head downstairs. yToZpc

Gu Qingchi didn’t let go after getting blocked. He simply raised his head and looked at Mr. Gu. Mr. Gu stood there like an iron tower. His face was stern and expressionless. He lowered his head and looked at Gu Qingchi. Once he saw that the other was looking at him, he shook his head disapprovingly.

“Go there.”

His hands were occupied with the boxes, so he pointed with his chin.

The direction he pointed in was that of the hospital bed. The stuff on the bed hadn’t been stored away yet. They had deliberately left those items for last so that Gu Qingchi could rest. OU9MKQ

Once the words left his mouth, Mr. Gu started to feel frustrated with himself again. He couldn’t help agonizing over whether he’d been too blunt with his words or not. When it came to Gu Xie, Mrs. Gu had always played the role of a loving mother, so Mr. Gu would play the role of a strict father. There had never been very much warmth between them. His concern even came in the form of orders. His words just now could be considered a rare display of gentleness from him. However, when it came to Gu Qingchi, Mr. Gu started to feel that he’d been too blunt, not friendly enough.

The two of them silently stared at each other for a while.

It was at this moment that Mrs. Gu appeared. She immediately pulled Gu Qingchi up to his feet.

“Good boy, let’s go downstairs and keep an eye on the car.” IrXjxt

She then started to pour praises onto Gu Qingchi.

“Good boy’s wearing a wristband. It looks so nice.”

As they walked out to the parking lot, Mrs. Gu began nervously wrapping her arms around Gu Qingchi. Never mind that Gu Qingchi was already a whole head taller than Mrs. Gu.

“It’s cold outside, and you’re not wearing nearly enough layers. Quick, get in the car.” RtNPmc

Mrs. Gu opened the car door and urged Gu Qingchi to get in.

The car was a limousine. The interior was very spacious.

Gu Qingchi was tightly bundled up by the blanket, leaving only his head outside. He sat by the car door, his long legs tucked together, seeming very obedient.

Xie Luyu silently loaded all of Gu Qingchi’s things onto the car. Just as he was about to get off, he quietly whispered to Gu Qingchi. Yfsw4I

“Call me if you need anything.”

Once everything was settled, Mrs. Gu warmly spoke a few words with Xie Luyu. She rather liked Xie Luyu.

“You’ve taken such good care of our good boy these past couple of days. Why don’t we have a meal together? We’ve already prepared a ton of food at home. Although the food isn’t anything special, I still think it’s worth a try.”

Xie Luyu declined with a wave of his hand. IWl2Vp

“Maybe some other time. I still have a schedule to get to. If I keep pushing it off, my agent’s going to give himself another bonus.”

Pan Xiaocheng had a habit of giving himself a bonus whenever he took mental damage. It wasn’t a huge amount. He mostly did it for the momentary satisfaction he received from notifying Xie Luyu.

Mrs. Gu swiftly dropped the subject. She now spent her days circling around Gu Qingchi. She didn’t have the time and energy to spare on Xie Luyu. Once the car had driven some distance away, Xie Luyu finally turned around. No one else was in the parking lot. His car was parked on the other side of the parking lot. He walked past one car after another and suddenly started humming as he walked. In that empty parking lot, there was only the sound of his singing. In that moment, he seemed a little lonely.

Mrs. Gu held onto Gu Qingchi’s hand, and Mrs. Gu didn’t let go until they got home.

“Let’s go take a look at good boy’s room. Good boy will be sleeping on the third floor with his big brother. However, there’s also a room on the second floor. Good boy can also sleep in the room next to Mom and Dad.”

Gu Qingchi looked at Mrs. Gu, momentarily dazed. He followed Mrs. Gu and slowly looked around the living room. It all seemed so familiar yet so foreign. It wasn’t long before Mrs. Gu began dragging him up to the second floor. This was where Mrs. Gu’s bedroom was. This floor also had a piano room and a study room. There was also a piano room on the third floor with floor-to-ceiling windows from which you could look out onto the sea.

Mrs. Gu’s room had a small connecting room. This room was her cloakroom turned nursery. The room next door was thus turned into a cloakroom in its place. He had lived there when he was a child because he was used to staying by his parents’ side. Once he got older, he had to move to the third floor. He cried when it was time for him to move, saying that he didn’t want to leave his mom, that the third floor was so far away and scary. Gu Xie, on the other hand, had lived on the third floor all by himself since he was very young. YzE835

No matter how everyone else coaxed him, the child still refused to move. It didn’t matter if the room on the third floor was big and spacious and had a super comfortable bathtub. He still wasn’t buying it. He even cried and said that a big room was super scary.

His family kept trying to coax him by telling him his brother was also on the third floor and he would be living with him. He hesitated. However, he still ended up crying and saying that his brother was so pitiful. He even wanted to drag his brother off to live with him in that small room. His family didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It was rare for the child to be so self-willed. In the end, Mrs. Gu had no choice but to repurpose her cloakroom into a small bedroom and moved her cloakroom to another room on the second floor.

Once he got older, he wasn’t so opposed to sleeping on the third floor anymore, but the small room on the second floor was always reserved for him.
