20. Grievance (2)

These old things have already passed for a long time, and the person concerned, Madam Yu, had already died four years ago. It is reasonable that no matter how big the grievances are, they should have returned to ashes and dust. Madam Li didn’t know how happy she was when she finally heard the news of Madam Yu’s death, but she and the elders of the eldest household, really did not expect that Yu Wenjun would be so enraged that he would even ignore Yu Laojun’s pressure under the guise of Madam Yu’s mourning for a year, and then without saying anything, he would rather tear his face with the family, and go to another place.

Madam Li had secretly waited for a long time, and the result of Yu Wenjun’s action was like a slap which hit her face completely. Everyone from the family down to the servants knew that Yu Wenjun disliked Madam Li to such an extent that he would rather destroy his career and go to a remote county than to stay with her. For the past four years, Madam Li felt that everyone was mocking her, and her temper had gradually become more temperamental and unpredictable, even moving to complain about the sky. However, now that she heard about the news of Yu Wenjun, Madam Li is still more joyful than aggrieved.

Although Yu Laojun would always say that Yu Wenjun was not responsible enough, one has to admit that Yu Wenjun was handsome, and is proficient in calligraphy, painting and music. His hands and feet also emit that scholarly air, which is a few blocks higher than those worldly sons who wear powder and paint their eyebrows in a pretentious manner. Although Madam Li liked to pose as the eldest sister-in-law all the time, inwardly she was still looking forward to Yu Wenjun’s return to the Main household, otherwise, she would not have targeted Madam Yu like that back then.

Yu Qingya heard a strong sense of resentment in her mother’s words, and she was coldly reminded of her own life after she married someone else. She and her mother have similar temperaments, and even their fates are similar when she grew up. In her previous life, Yu Qingya was not in the same situation as Madam Li where she married a husband with another wife, but she was still alone in her courtyard all day long.

What does it feel like to open your eyes and see the dawn? That is to soak your heart in acidic water, rubbing it vigorously, while expecting him to come at the first half of the night, and gradually despairing in the second half of it. She can not help but think where he was at the moment, in whose person’s bed, and what he was doing with another woman.

Yu Qingya understands such feelings all too well, she looked at Madam Li in front of her and couldn’t help but sigh softly, “Mother don’t pay too much attention to him, he is ungrateful, no matter how much you do for him, he will still remain indifferent. Why don’t you go to Yu Laojun to talk more instead, it’s a thousand times better than sticking yourself to him!”

Madam Li nodded, but her eyes still drifted away, apparently not taking what she said to heart. What is the use of having the support of Yu Laojun? Can she force her grandchildren to perform their nightly duties? Madam Li silently touched her belly, although Yu Wenjun stayed in the Main Household for half a month due to the urging of the elders, but he still did not spend the night in her courtyard. She finally conceived a baby and waited for ten months. But it was a daughter. She could not say that she was not disappointed. She still tried to conceive again later, but the second household’s Yu Qingjia was also born. Ever since Yu Qingjia was born Yu Wenjun’s unusual affection for that daughter immediately woke Madam Li up and made her understand that the reason why he stayed in the first household for a while was just to make Madam Yu’s life better.

The slap was so hard and ruthless that Madam Li could hardly find a place to stand. When Madam Yu finally died later, Yu Wenjun sulked and took their daughter to Qingzhou, leaving Madam Li behind. She felt like her life was a joke even more as she stayed in the Yu family mansion.

Madam Li thought of this sadness, and covered her face and wept, “Why is my life so bitter…” She thought about how Yu Wenjun had sent a beautiful concubine ahead before he even returned, and she felt even more like her life was soaked in Coptis chinensis1, even the gallbladder is bitter.

Yu Qingya was annoyed by Madam Li’s weeping. She remembered that in her previous life, she was not loved by her husband, but Yu Qingjia was married as a princess consort in a glorious way. She had heard the other noble ladies raise their eyebrows ambiguously, saying that Princess Langya never wore a low-collared dress. They were saying that she had been married for a long time, but she would still stay in bed occasionally to recuperate after a night of excessive indulgence with the Prince.

The Imperial family of the Qi Kingdom had always been indulgent to female sex, not to mention that they are all beautiful and good at martial arts. They would occupy the highest positions, full of vigor and vitality, so they also have the capacity to indulge in such depravity.

The other members’ of the imperial family are like that. They love to indulge in their sexual desires. They would be occupied by women and concubines every single night. However, the Prince of Langya was different, from his marriage to his enthronement, he has remained steadfast with Yu Qingjia by his side.

A woman’s jealousy grows like weeds. Yu Qingya silently stared at the candle flame pulsating on the case table, and suddenly called out coldly in her mind, “System.”

「Host, the female-matching system is at your service.」

“Yu Qingjia and the male lead’s encounter has not yet begun, has it?”

The electronic voice eerily paused for a moment and finally said firmly, 「Yes.」

“I’m going to intercept all of Yu Qingjia’s opportunities, and I’m going to give her a taste of my previous life as well.”

「Of course, we can fulfill all your wishes.」

Yu Qingya rummaged through the memories of her previous life, and her face showed a hint of thoughtfulness, “I remember that in my previous life, Yu Qingjia was surrounded by a lot of capable people, both inside and outside there were countless people protecting her. I secretly targeted her several times, but it all ended in failure. It even caused my reputation to be ruined. In this life, I want to poach all her subordinates. I remember that she had a bookkeeper, who was extremely smart and resourceful. It seems that he came to her side after being saved by her just around the period where she just returned.”

Yu Qingya paused at this thought, and the system’s lifeless voice said at the right time,

「Host, we can help you save him in advance, so that he will follow you wholeheartedly.」

Yu Qingya’s lips quickly flashed a smile, and she hurriedly held it back. She coughed a bit and covertly said in her mind, “I didn’t mean to steal my sister’s things, it’s just that those who see them must always have a share, and there’s no reason for me to give it to her.”

The system’s deadpan voice seemed to cross with some hint of mockery, 「The host is right.」

In the courtyard of the second household, Murong Yan was lying on the bed with his eyes closed. His eyes suddenly opened wide in the darkness. It was clear and his gaze was like a sword.

Outside the door, came the sound of a very small, very subtle sound of knocking, “Vixen, are you asleep?”1

Coptis chinensis [短萼黄连], is a species of goldthread flowering plant native to China. It was also characterized as a very bitter Chinese medicine.
