Chapter 329 Manipulated

In the end, if Jake had to guess, the enemy base that he was looking for came from the direction of the choppers. So, he decided to run in that direction. Still, from the choppers, several creatures armed with dark clothes that seemed pretty tight and covered their whole body jumped. As if that wasn't weird enough, they had some kind of jetpack on their backs, and they were armed with crossbows in both hands… they began to fly toward Jake just like that.

"This might become a bit troublesome…" Jake thought. "Flying enemies that can fire projectiles like that that looked quite technological are a pain in the ass..."

The enemies were one hundred meters away and stopped right there to fire the crossbows. Somehow, Jake had been watched, and they knew that the distance that they should keep from him… Still, they didn't know how far Jake actually could jump…

Jake began to run around and waited and observed. The bolts could fly pretty fast, but not fast enough to hit him from that distance. In the meantime, Jake watched how the enemies used the jetpacks, but he didn't notice anything out of the norm… they didn't have controls or something, so learning how to use them will take time. Time that he didn't have…

Without any choice, Jake jumped toward the enemies and then opened their eyes widely when they saw him approaching at fearsome speeds. At least Jake imagined that. It was hard to say, considering that their whole bodies were covered by their dark uniform…

They bombarded him with arrows, but Jake protected himself with his sword. When he got close enough, Jake kicked the enemy's chest and then used the impulse to approach another. He zigzagged in the air just like that, and the enemies were unable to stop him. Eventually, Jake landed on the top of one of the choppers… after he cut down the blades above it, and then he jumped toward the next.

"Where is someone to play Rules of Nature when you need it?" Jake asked. "

Despite the troublesome situation, Jake was enjoying himself… he couldn't stay depressed forever and while he couldn't forget his past, letting that drag him down forever wasn't something that he wanted. He had to carry that weight, but he couldn't let that sink him…

The enemies panicked when they noticed where Jake was heading and followed him with all their might. Still, unfortunately for them, Jake's jumps could make him cross five hundred meters in three seconds. He quickly left the choppers behind and began to jump using the buildings. He didn't have to let the grunts stop him.

While Jake was approaching one of the largest buildings there, he noticed that most of the people he saw were wearing that helmet. It didn't seem like they were playing a game, though. When he looked inside the buildings nearby, he also saw people looking at him with those helmets… he felt that it was something important for the people of that place… while he couldn't bother to think of the reason why they had that, Jake felt that it was important.

Before he could find the reason why those helmets were so important, Jake arrived at his destination, and as he had expected, a lot more grunts began to leave the place through the windows. Some were special agents like archers, and others were like the Spearmen. The archers used their bolts, and the spearmen approached while their weapons were emitting some high-voltage electricity.

"The other group is approaching as well… I need to deal with them," Jake thought.

Even bees can kill when one is allergic to them or when hundreds of them sting the same target. With that in mind, Jake began to spam his Mana Blade like there was no tomorrow…

It was weird how much those guys were weak but still had the same power level. Regardless, mana wasn't a problem as long as Jake killed them in a single hit since he can recover even that much without using passive skills… with his recovery alone.

Now and then, the enemies would manage to hit Jake in the parts that his armor didn't protect, but they barely pierced his skin, and whenever one of those guys was defeated, the effects of Motivation would heal Jake's wounds. In no time, the battlefield became a red sea of corpses. Despite that, Jake didn't hear a single grunt of pain.

"I get it now… those soldiers, they are being controlled," Jake thought.

It all made sense now… the helmets that the people were using were supposed to be some sort of device that controlled others. In order to keep them safe from harm, they use other people, monsters, and perhaps even robots. That was why Jake couldn't feel the bloodlust directly…

"I suppose they can each control one, but even so… they must have captured a lot of people in order to make this kind of army…" Jake thought.

Jake was starting to get pissed… perhaps he should make the entire spaceship explode. Fighting for survival, it was only natural that people would die, but using the defeated like that wasn't something that Jake liked to see… in any case, before Jake could decide to do anything related to that, he finally felt some serious bloodlust. Eventually, he saw a single being leaving the building in front of him, and he was like that guy Jake found in that dark world where he had to protect a camp for ten days… half-humanoid and half-cyborg.

Half of his body was covered in scales, and half was of a machine. He also seemed similar to that lizardman, but instead of green scales, his scales were darker and sharper… Again, he didn't look much like the people wearing helmets, and he wasn't emitting any blood lust. So, Jake felt that he was being controlled…
