35 A Dubious Inciden
Smith checked out the place where the guardia civil said, the carcasses was not there anymore.
"Sir! Maybe it was washed away by the river?..."
Seeing his uncertain face, Smith looked at him sharply.
"Are you certain that it was here?"
"Of course sir!" he said firmly.
"Go check the other parts of the riverbank!" Smith commanded and sent three guards to go.
When they cameback the report was negative. There was no trace of dead animals in the area and the place was so peaceful that you can't even imagine that something ominous would happen. They didn't have much to do then.
Approaching the office hall, a lot of people was there. Complaints were raised like a farmer's dead carabao the other day, a woman was crying because one day she can't find their pigs and found that it was dead the next day, an angry mother because her daughter's dog was missing, and etc.
With perplexed mind, Smith narrowed his eyes. All the guardias are looking at each other with some murmuring about
"Maybe there's a cult around that area.."
"Yeah, i guess they made those animals as their sacrifice."
"But how about the blood? There was no trace of it."
As the guardia civil who had found the pile of carcasses in the riverbank, hearing those commotions he can't help to be flustered, so he whispered on Smith's ear.
"Sir, this might be a serious problem.."
Smith had a sharp gaze at him making him more flustered. But then she nodded and agreed to make more investigation to the case.
Listing all the complaints from the people, Smith assigned a group who will have their rounds on the riverbank per shift.
"....three of you, every morning. In the noon time time and the afternoon it will be another batch...."
"....Everyone should be careful as we don't know what were about to face. Always bring your weapons with you.."
Understanding the situation, everyone nodded and directly went towards their posts.

Claridad was watering the plants when she heard a lot of murmuring sound. Turning back to see what was going on, she saw her neighbors who immediately greeted her.
"Magandang hapon din po." [ Good afternoon too]
What was going on? why are they all wearing a sad expression on their faces.
"Claridad, alam mo na ba yung balita?" [Claridad, do you already know the news?]
