CH 187

“Thank you for answering my call. I honestly didn’t think you would come…”

In front of me is Reese, the guildmaster of the adventurer guild of Majolica. A messenger from the guild visited our rented home last night, asking me to come here if possible.

I don’t have a very good impression of them, but they have some idea in mind, and I want to keep using the dungeon, so I decided to play nice and come here.

Hikari and Mia were worried about why they called me, so they’re here too, one sitting to my left and the other to my right, but that’s fine.

Sera and the others are n the twenty first floor preparing items.

“So, what is it?”

“I wanted to thank you for pointing out the problems with people making reservations on the boss floor, and the way adventurers rank up.”

She then starts talking about their internal affairs with an awkward smile on her face.

“We knew it to an extent, but we couldn’t be very aggressive about it as a guild. For example, if we turn adventurers against us, they will take their materials to the merchant guild. Or worse, they can end up in Prekes.”

Adventurers are known for being free spirits, but would they really move just because of that?

“Especially since everything is lumped together as dungeons, but the difficulty here and there isn’t the same. Although it’s different for people that use the field type floors a lot.”

“Yes, Fred said he’s not very good with those.”

“And since it reached the ears of Jake from Guardian Sword this time, they took the initiative to speak to other clans to rework this for us. Honestly, it’s a great help. It would be a nightmare if I started hearing about people arguing, moving somewhere else, and then dying there.”

She really looks relieved. Does she care that much about adventurers?

“But we already have a system in place to assign ranks, so it will be difficult to change it. And so, I decided to create a consultation office to supplement the support side of things. It’s currently being prepared.

We can hold short courses from time to time, and teach things starting from the basics.”

They can get advice from senior adventurers and learn from them, but if the way they teach is wrong, it’s no good. Of course, it’s all down to personal responsibility, but if it’s possible to reduce damage and injuries, it’s worth a try.

In a way, the students of the magic academy are probably better with crisis management.

“But why did you call me?”

“Well, I’ve heard a lot about you. I want to make sure there is no enmity between us.”

Yes, I feel like we’ve butt heads a lot. But I’m thinking all of this might be because I have a connection with the feudal lord through Leila too.

As I think about that, I notice Reese is silently looking at me.

Her serious expression is very mature, but my initial impression means I can’t look at her as someone who’s reliable.

She starts averting her eyes left and right, probably because she can tell where I’m looking even through the mask. Then she coughs in an exaggerated way, and changes the subject.

“So Sora, what are you and your party planning to do next?”

“We haven’t really decided. I guess aim for the thirtieth floor.”

“I feel like you could aim higher.”

“I don’t know if we have the power, or the party members for that.”

Our party has no problems with compatibility, but I’m still worried about defense. I’ve asked Chris before if she knows any defensive spells, but she said she doesn’t know anything that’s very strong.

“Why not recruit more members? Depending on who you get, you might be able to reach previously unexplored floors. That would be a great honor.”

“Maybe, but I’m not really interested. I don’t want to risk my life, or put everyone else in danger by trying to go beyond our abilities.”

“…I see. You’re right. That way of thinking is important for an adventurer. Please make sure you don’t forget that.”

Is it just me or is she becoming pretty nice? That last part in particular resonated with me.

But we are actually getting more people starting from the next floor. I don’t really need to say that, so I don’t.

“Please contact the reception desk if there is any trouble. We won’t respond right away, but we will be on it as soon as possible.”

I thank her, and we leave.

The moment I walk through the door, I feel this strange feeling of liberation.

“She was nice. Completely different from last time.”

I see Mia agrees with how I felt.

“What’s wrong, Hikari? You look serious.”

“I don’t know, but I have a weird feeling.”

Something’s bothering her, but she doesn’t know what.
