Volume 1 - CH 13

Kamiyama-san and Harusame-san are in trouble.

“So, what should we do in the conversation club during Golden Week?”

Lunch break. Arai-san, who had just finished eating lunch with the other four students at my seat in the first-year class, said, “So, what should we do during the Golden Week?”

I thought about it for a moment and said what came to mind.

“I think that… usually, when people talk about club activities during the holidays, they think about what they should do to overcome what they’re not good at while engaging in actual competition, or conversely, put together a special activity to strengthen what they’re good at.”

“What they’re not good at…?

Sweat drips down from the ends of Kamiyama-san’s hair from within her paper bag, and made a small stain on the desk when she heard the words “What they’re not good at…”

Seeing this, Harusame-san took out a large number of handkerchiefs from her pocket. Then, while grumbling, she wipes away the sweat from Kamiyama-san’s desk. It seems that she carries a lot of handkerchiefs with her, as she promised some time ago.

I continue, admiring this unexpected aspect of Harusame-san’s personality.

“Yeah, an actual activity of things we’re not good at. For example… right, it would be like actually doing the things you have trouble with in your daily life and interpersonal relationships and overcoming them.“

The ostensible activity of our conversation club is to practice conversation so that we can better communicate with others and have a smooth daily life. My suggestion should not be far off the mark.

I am sure that I am right. There is also the underlying reason of making Kamiyama-san decent and minimize the damage to me.

Harusame-san, who had finished wiping the sweat off her face, said.

“Overcoming troubles, huh…? Kominato-kun says nice things once in a while.”

“I’m sure you’ll be able to find a way to get the word out. So, do you three have any problems in your everyday lives?”

In response to my question, Harusame-san and Kamiyama-san folded their arms in the exact same motion and assumed a thinking pose. Then, after thinking for a while, tilting their heads in the same direction, they opened their mouths at the same time.

“Shopping… maybe…?”

I was surprised to hear the unexpected answer.

I had expected to hear something about school life or socializing, so I was surprised by the unexpected answer and asked a question.

“What’s the problem with shopping? I don’t think there’s anything difficult about shopping.”

The first to answer was Harusame-san.

“…You don’t know what you’re talking about… It’s so annoying when you don’t know where to find something you want.”

“Why don’t you just ask the clerk?”

Harusame-san sighs exaggeratedly.

“That’s why people call me a loser.”

I haven’t been told.

“And you know what? These days, the clerks are so unfriendly, you know? They don’t tell you where the merchandise is or anything.”

I don’t think that shopkeepers these days are unfriendly. I asked how Harusame-san usually asks to find what she was looking for.

“How do you usually ask the clerk what you’re looking for?”

“I did it perfectly normal. I go over to the clerk’s side, and then I talk to her! I’m like, “Hey, hey, hey, where is that thing?” But when I turn around, she was gone. That’s not very nice.”

Harusame-san said and tapped the life-size panel with magical girls on it next to her.

Oh, that’s right. I had almost forgotten that she could usually only talk to this panel of anime characters named A-chan.

“It’s totally disrespectful… Sometimes, when I’m looking for something, I wouldn’t be able to find it and have to return home without buying it…”

I nodded to Harusame in dismay, and then I asked Kamiyama-san a question as well.

“Is that so… are you like that too, Kamiyama-san?”

“M-M-me…? In my case… it’s more fundamental…”

“Fundamental?”

Kamiyama-san says, twisting her body strangely, sweat dripping down her face. I’m not sure what you mean by that.

“…That… uh…  I look at… products in my hands. They get… wet, so I had to buy… all of it.”

“Oh… yeah…”

That was definitely fundamental.

“Oh yeah, and… one more thing…”

“There’s still more?”

“Yes… I often get told “Please do not enter the store with your face covered” and not allowed to enter the store.”

Is this the same thing as the ones posted in convenience stores, like no entry with helmets? I didn’t think they had even reached the level of normal stores or malls.

Arai-san, who was listening to their conversation, spoke up.

“Then, why don’t we make the Conversation Club’s activity during the consecutive holidays a shopping practice? Let’s all go out to town and practice shopping.”

Hearing Arai-san’s suggestion, Harusame-san nodded her head as she smiled like a blooming flower. Meanwhile, I heard Kamiyama-san mumbling happily inside her paper bag.

“Shopping with friends on your day off… that’s a first for me…”

I couldn’t bring myself to water down the happy Kamiyama-san and reluctantly agreed to go shopping practice as a club activity on the next consecutive holiday.
