Volume 2 - CH 7

The breakthrough towards the “enemy general” led by Tilda and the Herder Legion was successful.

However, Tilda and her men continued to advance as our vanguard despite being exhausted, so we immediately followed and supported them by launching an attack on the rearguard troops where the enemy general was likely to be.

“It’s a glorious day to risk our lives for the Faith. We’ll crush them with all our might!”

In response to Tilda’s voice, the remaining Herderites shouted and charged.

Armed with swords and spears, they all plunged into the goblin crowd without hesitation and went on a rampage.

“We can’t just leave it to the vanguard. Follow them!”

At Lucy’s command, our troops also charged in.

“All right, if we keep going like this….”

I smiled at my allies as they continued to make rapid progress.

At first, I judged it hopeless as we are already in front of nearly two thousand enemies, but thanks to the vanguard’s rapid and courageous progress, victory was in sight.

“But then again, Tilda is amazing.”

In front of us, Tilda was rampaging with her spear as if this was a normal day for her.

Though I already knew her power has been strengthened by magic, the way she was blowing away goblins the size of human children like golf balls is still really a sight to see.

I’d like to have her as an asset to our troops, but that would be a generous thinking.

The distance between Tilda and the general, which was quite wide at first, had already disappeared.

Together with the surviving Herderites, they made their way through the last of the enemy groups.

Tilda was the first to break through the enemy wall and appear in front of the enemy general.

“Finally made it. And it looks like you’re their leader.”

She murmured quietly, towards the large goblin in front of her.

A normal goblin is about the size of a child, but this goblin was as tall as a grown man.

Not only that, Its arms and legs were so muscular that it was hard to believe it was the same species as the goblins we had been fighting until now.

But the most striking feature of the goblin was the crown on its head, albeit a crude one.

“Guuuuuu……”

The huge goblin……the Goblin King, glared at Tilda while letting out a low roar.

He then grabbed the large club propped up beside him with one hand and lifted it up.

A ferocious killing intent assailed Tilda, but she did not take a step back. If yo u a re ab le to re ad th s mess age, yo u ar e re ad ing f rom an una uth orized agg rega te si te. Re ad at my Wo rdPr ess at stab b ing w ith a syr inge. h ome. b log to su ppo rt me and my tran slati ons.

“Heh, this should be fun. Don’t be too quick to die, monster.”

Tilda shook the blood off her spear and pointed its tip at the goblin.

They stared at each other, and after a moment, they began to move simultaneously.

“Gogaaaaaaah!”

The Goblin King swung his large club with one hand and tried to smash Tilda to pieces.

“That power alone is enough to kill me in one hit……no, that speed alone would guarantee to kill me before it hits me even!”

I started to break out in a cold sweat as I watched the ground where Tilda had been just moments before getting smashed to bits and its wind pressure hitting my skin.

Each time the Goblin King’s club struck the ground, dust would fly in the air, but even the wind pressure from the attacks made by it was avoided in a paper-thin difference by the superwoman.

Tilda thrust her spear out in return, but the Goblin King also dodged it with a nimble movement that you would never guess from his appearance.

“Damn you, you’re just a monster, but you’re impudent!”

Whether it was a sharp thrust or a high-powered cleave, the Goblin King would evade all of Tilda’s hits or defend against them.

But it wasn’t that Tilda’s attacks were slow. It’s just that she’s exhausted from all the fighting so far.

After all, she had been fighting in an intense melee for almost an hour with no time to rest.

No matter how good she was at martial arts and her physical abilities, she would still run out of stamina after a series of fights.

“Ahh, mou, I can’t watch this anymore!”

Naturally, seeing her comrade struggling, Lucy also charged in.

“I’ll leave everyone to you, Yuushin. Please don’t let the enemy get close to us!”

“Wait, aren’t you supposed to be telling this to the old man!? Hey!”

Lucy didn’t even pay attention to my words and immediately took off.

As long as she is following her father’s footsteps, she would never abandon her comrades-in-arms who fought with her.

Lucy drew her sword from her waist and tried to slit the enemy’s throat with the momentum of her running.

However, maybe because the Goblin King must have sensed it right before she did it, he stepped back right away before Lucy’s blade reached him.

“Tch, he’s got good instincts!”

Lucy abandoned her usual kind expression and lined up beside Tilda with a nervous look on her face.

After all, this was the first time she will be fighting such a powerful enemy.

It was a big step forward for her, considering she was a person who freezes in fear in front of a monster not so long ago. But that was still a big difference compared to the threat of the monster she was facing now.

“Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!”

The Goblin King got even angrier now that he had discovered he has more opponents to watch out for.

As if to adapt to this, the muscles in his arms and legs grew so large that the club he was holding looked as small as a stick.

“He’s taken in all the magic around him to buff himself?”

“How is that even possible?”

“I think he possessed a gift from a Demon God, so maybe he has a high affinity for magic enhancement.”

Even though she was the one who said its dangers, Tilda was the first to set off.

She held up her spear with both hands and seamlessly thrust it out in succession at the Goblin King.

Instead of dodging it, however, the Goblin King caught the blows with his club.

“I knew it. It seems that the more power you have, the slower you move!”

To this, Tilda lifted the corners of her mouth to a grin.

She was like a predator baring its fangs, making the Goblin King snarl in alarm.

Lucy followed in her footsteps and began her attack.

While the Goblin King’s attention was busy on Tilda, her sword slashed the monster’s arm.

Fresh blood flew up, showing her success in inflicting the first wound on the Goblin King.

“I’m going to take its head!”

After that came the series of joint attacks of the two women.

Lucy’s sword and Tilda’s spear attacked the Goblin King incessantly.

At first, he was defending himself with muscles that had grown sturdy, but the Goblin King was slowly being cornered.

“Ggghh, ggghh…….”

Though he was not fatally wounded, his limbs were already in tatters.

Lucy and Tilda, on the other hand, were only grazed.

“This is the end!”

“Time for us to end this!”

The two seemed to be in perfect sync throughout this battle, even though this should be the first time they are fighting together.

They began to move left and right at the same time, striking at the Goblin King at both flanks.

“Hmph!”

Tilda’s spear was thrust out and aimed at the Goblin King’s head, but the latter clubbed it away, creating an opening on the other side.

“I can’t miss here!”

”Gghhhh!”

Lucy used this to her advantage and struck herself a follow-up slash, to which the Goblin King decided to sacrifice his arm, thinking that his club wouldn’t make in time to defend the blow.

“That’s not enough!”

Lucy’s sword swung down from above the Goblin King, where she stepped forward to exert more force, cutting off the arm used as a shield.

Then, she re-aimed the tip of her sword at the Goblin King’s now undefended chest and thrust it out with all her might.

The sword was buried until the middle of its blade, and a great deal of blood spurted out.

“Agah, gah……”

With a short groan, the Goblin King collapsed to the ground.

At the same time, the surrounding goblins immediately fell into a state of panic. They threw down their weapons and began to flee in disarray.

“…… It’s over.”

“Yes, thanks to you, Ms. Tilda……Ms. Tilda!”

When Lucy turned to look at her ally, she found out that Tilda had collapsed, looking really exhausted.

Sensing it was clear and safe, I stopped watching the surroundings and headed for Lucy.

“She looks tired, but she doesn’t seem to be seriously injured. Let’s retreat for now, Commander Finlay.”

“Really? I’m glad she’s not hurt. Understood, let’s go home.”

Thus, seeing that our enemies are fleeing, we retrieved the survivors of the Foreign Legion and the wounded and immediately retreated to the city walls.
