Chapter 152 - Going out

When I woke up, the sun was barely peeking from under the line of the city buildings. Even with the advantage of height over most of them, I still could see only it's first rays enlighting the landscape of the town.

As soon as I tried to carefully move out of the bed as to not wake Eve up, I felt her strong grip on my arm. Taking a look at her sleepy face, I saw a mischevious smile and wide-open eyes. I guess I wasn't the one to wake up first.

"Good morning."

Just those two words were enough to make my day. Waking up with a cute beauty hugged onto your arm while savouring the look of your asleep face? Can you point me one greater thing? Except for using a trebuchet to reconquer the Holy land of Jerusalem in a modern crusade of course!

"If you were awake, you could wake me up as well!"

With a tiny bit of annoyance in my voice, I tried to hide my embarrassment. I still have yet to gaze at her sleepy face, but she already accomplished this achievement!

"But you looked sooooo cute!"

Laughing out loud, Eve finally gathered herself and stood up from the bed. With her naked body shining in the first light of the day, I couldn't help but notice her beauty all over again.

"Let's get dressed and go to the arena. We don't know when the tournament starts after all."

With those words, I reached to my storage ring and threw her clothes at my fiancee. Thank God for my clear mind yesterday. If not for me sweeping it out whenever we took a single piece off our bodies, they would be either dirty, wet or even covered in our love juices now!

With Eve's face still brimming with joy and happiness, I pretended not to notice it and swiftly threw my clothes up and finished dressing up by putting my leather armour as well. Turning around, I helped her put it on and bind the threads on her side to make it stick tightly to her body.

"Let's go."

After making sure that nothing that privately belongs to us was left in the room, we went downstairs, only to be met with a surprised look from the receptionist. With no one else in the grand entrance hall present, it was obvious that she would notice us!

"Sir and Lady surely woke up fast! It's unusual to see anyone else regaining their senses before the city bell!"

Oh, another information for me. I guess said bell works as a signal for the gatekeepers to open the city while being used by townsfolk as an alarm for waking up. Maybe because we went to sleep early we managed to wake up before everyone else.

"I take it that the tournament won't be starting any time soon?"

Using the fact that we already had someone to ask for advice, it would be stupid to ignore this opportunity. Why go all the way down to the arena, if we can learn everything in our lodging?

"Of course not! How could you even get this idea! With most of the contestants arriving only today, the only event that will happen is a grand opening ceremony. While it's in nice manners to take part in it if you will be participating in the tournament itself, but no one can actually force you to do so. Agh…"

Suddenly dropping her head down, she took a piece of paper from below her dest and jotted a few words on it, before calling us to her window.

"Take this note. I wrote down all the important timeframes for the coming days. It will make it far easier for you to move around and have a great time in the city, won't it?"

Smiling amiably, the receptionist passed the note through a small gap between a desk and glass panel that separated her small office from the hall. I wonder what makes her so kind for strangers like us? Is this part of customer service here? While it's few grades under the official approach back on earth, I actually prefer this informal and amiable behaviour!

"Thanks for the help! Oh, before we go, would you be so kind as to tell me where can I practice some of my techniques and in what general direction we could find a market? If we still have so much time before everything will start, I would prefer to make good use of it!"

Taking out one of the few coins that we received at registration, I placed it on the desk, only to see receptionist hand making some magical trick, causing the coin to vanish without even touching it! In a moment, her amiable smile turned to that of the greatest friend that I ever could meet in my life!

"If you want to train in a safe environment, you should just go to the main arena and ask for a sparring room. Since you are with your girlfriend, you can just claim that you want to get some last-minute training before the tournament. They should guarantee you a private sparing room then. As for the market, I would recommend going there later, because there might not be many people or vendors there yet. As for the directions, you just need to turn left after getting to the main street, and turn right after the 'Vitiria Leaf' teashop. You will see a great number of small buildings located there, this is what you are probably looking for!"

With all the information that I needed to obtain, we thanked the receptionist and left the building.

"Where do you want to go first? Market or the arena?"

Reaching the main street, we could go either right for the arena or left for the shops, just like the receptionist advised. While I wanted to test some of my new abilities steeming from Bonger's upgrade, waiting for the market to be filled with people would make selling the rest of the stuff from my storage ring a lot harder. Unable to decide by myself, I simply placed the burden of decision on Eve's shoulders.

"Let's go shopping first. If we will be able to get a private room to train, there is no point rushing there right now!"
