470 Collecting the data

After passing through exactly thirty doors more, half of each side of the plain but perfectly even corridor, I finally reached my first destination. Yet, despite how insane the barrier protecting this place was, the doors leading to the main building of the library that all the sects had access to, the doors that most likely lead to its main chamber, looked far plainer than I expected!

Without even a hint of decoration of any sorts on them, they only gave off the slightly robust feeling, as if the planks that made up the blockade between the corridor and the room came from some kind of insanely thick tree, that locals were unable to cut into thinner pieces.

Yet there was no point in pondering over the reasons and tricks inhabitants of the heavenly city used. Rather than that, my time would be better used on versing through the books and scripts!

Not willing to waste my time any more, I placed my hand on the door, before pushing it wide open. Yet instead of seeing a grand palace filled with shelves bending under the weights of the scrolls and books stored on them, the interior of the general library was just as plain as the corridor that leads to it!

While the small disappointment filled my mind, I still followed the main alley of the room to the central shelves, instantly picking up random books and opening them on random pages.

*...during the sixth crusade, the forces of the Juterian Princedom and Gurian Dominate took part in the infamed massacre of the angelic sect…*

*... teachings proved the superiority of the Natan superstition over the Hetan rationale…*

*... downfall. If not for this, it is assumed that the Ulian dynasty could remain at the top of the eastern federation government…*

Just the first three books I looked through proved how silly I was when I thought that I could catch up with all the important parts of the knowledge commonly possessed by the locals just by looking through some books! If I wanted to learn everything that even a kid of the locals knew, I would've to spend at least just as much time as a said kid would spend listening to the teachings of his parents!

"Do you need some help with that? It's not like all the points that are lying around your status have to be used all at once for your statistics only…"

*Would you mind to elaborate? You should know I won't spend that many points only for quickening the process of reading all those books!*

While scripts could provide quite a bit of information, it would be far easier for me to just find some random cultivator, charm him to the near-death state and pull all the vital parts about everything I deemed necessary to know than invest my hard-earned points into some single-use tool!

"Well, I won't make you read them all, but I have a tool just for you. It costs only one thousand points and can scan all the written forms of text and then form all the information into a database that you could read on the spot rather than looking for various bits of the information. So, how it will be? Just keep in mind, it won't make you suddenly know everything from those books and scrolls, as you will have to go through all the gathered data yourself!"

Thinking about this, for the current me, a thousand points wasn't all that much. Rather, it was something I could easily get by a single essence gathering session a few times over, and considering how the monsters of my current level were stronger as well, maybe even there was some way to gather attribute points rather than the experience itself?

*Okay then, but just this once. You know I don't really like wasting my points like that.*

With my agreement, I felt just a small tingle somewhere in my head, before I saw a small sphere around me, that turned everything within its confines just slightly more bright. With just a single attempt, I managed to turn it off and clear my vision from this strange artefact, yet when I wished for it to appear once again, the books that were covered in this strange shine before, now turned completely dim, as if I was no longer able to access them!

This sphere should be far bigger than what you have right now… It seems that the barrier in this place influences its maximum reach. That means you will need to go around the entire library to make sure all the books and scrolls will be enveloped by the aura of the database tool for at least a single moment!"

Thanks to Bonger's explanation, I didn't need to wander around trying to figure out the way to use this tool by myself, especially with how I was sure that the tool that would explain the usability of all the other tools I had in my system would cost some exorbitant amount of attribute points!

With no better way to use my time, I simply walked around the library, taking up an elated look on my face, as if just being surrounded by this insane wealth of knowledge was enough to put me in the tranquil state of mind. Even though simply running around the place would be more efficient in terms of time required to gather all the data I could from it, considering how I wasn't the only one using this place at the moment, while I could save a few minutes, I would risk quite a bit of scorn and even worse - quite a bit of attention falling right on top of my head!

Thinking about all the exploits that I would have to make true in the near future, I wasted even more time, stopping from time to time, picking up a book, looking through a few of its pages before shaking my head with faked disappointment and putting it back to its place on the shelf, only to resume my slow march through the alleys.

By the time all of the books were finally collected by my tool and most likely converted into simple streaks of data before put into organised tables by either Bonger himself or the other part of the system's tool, I could feel my legs protesting about all the walking that I have done in this painfully slow pace!

But I wasn't done for today! Even if I could learn about everything accessible to the general public now, there was no way I would go back before all the data from the Goose sect exclusive area of the library would fall into my hands as well!
