CH 12

A good portion of the parents of senior high schoolers know that they should encourage and push their child to study properly. This was to ensure that their child had more options and a guaranteed way-out in case of anything, but very few parents would pay attention to college enrollment notices and course selections very early on.

The Qiao family belonged to the type who considered the future early, because there was also this person called “Fu Zhi Zhou”.

Fu Zhi Zhou had not only gathered and compiled news of enrollments from dance specialised schools, but also the rate of professional development of specialised students of every college.

The only thing missing was visiting the schools to check which had canteen food that suited Qiao Luo’s appetite the best.

The moment Year 1 ended, Fu Zhi Zhou took the information and Qiao Luo’s mock examination grades to Qiao Luo’s class mentor.

He had everything arranged in extreme order and neatness.

By the time Father and Mother Qiao came back to their senses, Fu Zhi Zhou had already reached a consensus with Qiao Luo’s mentor regarding his situation.

Because of this, Father and Mother Qiao were very grateful towards Fu Zhi Zhou and felt a little embarrassed that they, as parents, hadn’t played their part well.

Fu Zhi Zhou was also feeling slightly embarrassed for harboring his own secret twisted intentions.

Only the fool, Qiao Luo, who did nothing and thought of nothing yet managed to get results, was super excited. Because from Year 2 onwards, he could end school at 4pm everyday to attend dance lessons.

Fu Zhi Zhou eased a few of his worries. Once in junior high school, Qiao Luo was ranked last and in senior high, his grades were always floating in the mid range, not as dangerous as before.

He, himself, was also starting his role as a student researcher. His everyday life was very busy; the nights and days sequence were all messed up. He frequently returned back to his dorm only at 12 midnight and still took the time to wake Qiao Luo up the next day.

Others’ would feel depressed and moody because of their secret love, yet he would lose sleep because of his secret love.

Perhaps Qiao Luo’s conscience finally realised how much Fu Zhi Zhou had sacrificed for him, or maybe Qiao Luo’s meridians were cleared; during senior high year 2’s second monthly examination, Qiao Luo broke through the sky and absurdly entered the first 200 placings.

The first ever in history.

Fu Zhi Zhou knew of this news very early. On the night itself, he put down everything, held his phone and waited for the little bastard to call and demand a reward.

He would lowkey guide the little rascal to demand a PSP, and thus, he would “forcibly” make a trip back, “to prevent upsetting” Qiao Luo.

But before Qiao Luo’s text came in, Old Man Fu’s call came.

Old Man Fu directly went straight to the point, “Zhi Zhou, Luo Luo seemed to have gotten into some sort of accident. I just saw some policemen going to his house. How about coming back to take a look?”

Fu Zhi Zhou jerked up. His brow furrowed so tightly together that the skin lumped up. He stuffed his car keys into his pockets, grabbed a coat with a hand yet his words were, “Aren’t Uncle Qiao and Aunty Qiao at home? Why would I need to go there?”

Old Man Fu was close to rolling his eyes, “Not going back? If you don’t come back, your partner will have already run away from you!”

Fu Zhi Zhou ran down the stairs in big strides and almost missed a step from what he just heard, “Grandpa, what did you say?”

Grandpa Fu was an old man who had experienced the world, “You like Luo Luo, right? Stop trying to put up an act with me. Hurry home to check on him.”

The most important point that Grandpa Fu mentioned had made Fu Zhi Zhou nearly forget how to drive. He sat in the driver’s seat, asking, “How did you know?”

“How did I know!!” Grandpa Fu was raging, “When did you learn to drive? Right after entering college when Luo Luo lied about his sickness!! The moment the other finished his junior high exams, didn’t you say that you were discussing business contracts? Good, you even stubbornly ran all the way home to see him. And then when the other went to Europe, didn’t you use my name as an excuse to pick him up at the airport! Even better, now that the other has entered senior high, you are even more worried and anxious than his own parents. Xiao Qiao’s husband and wife even thanked me. This old face of mine has nowhere to put outside. My own grandson fancies other’s son and even made the other party thank me!”

The old man panted after roaring, and asked, “Where have you reached? You better mind your safety!”

Fu Zhi Zhou, “…… I just left school. There’s no traffic at night, I can reach there in half an hour’s time.”

Old Man Fu hated that iron couldn’t become steel1, “Drive slowly, it’s not very urgent. Luo Luo is a good person! Just look at you, all I did was say some words and you’re already this anxious! Yet you still keep that poker face, throwing that face around to the other all day, and even show your grandpa this behaviour!”

Fu Zhi Zhou’s fingers drummed on the steering wheel as he waited for the green light. His heart was so anxious that it was about to burn. He helplessly said, “Little Grandpa, don’t vent your anger on me. Luo Luo is only this big. How can I say this to him? Furthermore, he even sticks to me so tightly in senior high. If I say that I’m the one who likes him, what if the kid has actually never thought about it that way? If I make him mull over this now, his emotions will be affected. Then what if his grades suffer?”

Old Man Fu was speechless and mumbled after a long while, “So you’re just going to wait in vain like this for him?”

The red light turned, Fu Zhi Zhou started driving off, “Little Grandpa, we have the same behaviour…… You waited for my Grandfather for a lifetime. Me waiting for him for a couple of years is nothing much.”

When Fu Zhi Zhou reached home, Mother and Father Qiao were sending the local policemen out and coincidentally bumped into each other.

This saved Fu Zhi Zhou from digging his brain to find an excuse. His burning hot heart was boiling till almost burnt. His hands were trembling when he was parking the car, yet he calmly asked, “Uncle Qiao, Aunty Qiao, this…… what happened?”

Father and Mother Qiao didn’t delve deeper and thought that Fu Zhi Zhou was back to visit Old Man Fu.

Mother Qiao’s eyes were still red as she said, “When Luo Luo was returning home from school, he was stopped by a young gangster. We just reported it to the police.”

Fu Zhi Zhou couldn’t hold it in any longer, his voice was unable to be controlled as it raised by a few octaves, “How’s Luo Luo? Is he hurt? Scared?”

Mother Qiao choked up, “He wasn’t hurt but his trauma isn’t light.”

He followed them into the house, hating that he couldn’t run to see the other.

Qiao Luo sat on the sofa in the air-conditioned living room, wrapped up in a blanket. He hugged a cup of warm milk, quietly sitting there.

Fu Zhi Zhou’s heart rolled and fell onto concrete, so painful that he couldn’t control his expressions. He walked up and knelt down in front of Qiao Luo. He wanted to hug Qiao Luo very much, but wasn’t able to. He could only gently call out warmly, “Luo Luo?”

The little rascal would sell meng the moment he saw him, but now, he didn’t even make a fuss. His little face was pale white and the wide opened eyes stared at him for a while. His eyes became red, “I was bullied……”

3 words, every alphabet turned into slashes, becoming sharp fragmented needles. They flowed in from the ears and drilled into the body. Each and every one of them stabbed his heart, and the throbbing pain flowed with the blood as it entered his 4 limbs and hundreds of bones.

Fu Zhi Zhou’s heart was aching terribly. He hesitated for a long while before finally holding the hand that Qiao Luo held the cup in, pinching every one of his fingers, “It’s okay now. It’s already reported to the police. Drink the milk first. Good boy.”

The bodily contact made Qiao Luo a little more at ease and he obediently followed Fu Zhi Zhou’s hand movements as he drank the milk.

Mother Qiao was also about to pass away from heartache.

When Qiao Luo returned home, his whole body was covered in mud. The strap of his school bag was torn apart, his entire being was trembling in panic. He murmured for a long time before they understood that he encountered a young gangster.

Father Qiao made a report while Mother Qiao bathed and cleaned him up.

But from the beginning till now, Qiao Luo’s face was horribly pale and would answer every question. Yet, he didn’t cry, nor did he make a fuss.

Mother Qiao thickened her skin to request a favor from Fu Zhi Zhou, “Zhi Zhou, could you……stay here for the night? Luo Luo is close to you……”

Fu Zhi Zhou coaxed Qiao Luo to finish half of his milk as he hastily said, “I’m definitely staying. I’ll accompany him to bed. Aunty Qiao, don’t worry, I’ll pick him up from school from now on. There won’t be any such incidents happening ever again.”

As he said so, he lowered his head to look at Qiao Luo. He coaxed as he held Qiao Luo’s hand, “Luo Luo, don’t be afraid, alright?”
