Chapter 139

139 Microscopic Viewpoint

“Hey, it’s time”

Cherry’s voice rang softly by his side prompting Nicholas to put down the book he was currently engrossed in, he put down the book on the steel table and silently got up to follow her.

He was quietly reviewing the contents of the book, it was a collection of the basics and insights of various formation masters and array creators, since he had taken up such a profession it was only natural he began to study it in-depth, although the profession was not a combat oriented career per se but Nicholas would have to make do with it, although he had already started to incorporate the abilities of his profession into his combat system there was still a lot to dig from the profession.

The short walk to their destination was quiet as Cherry left Nicholas to his thoughts while she seemed to be fiddling with the electronic handheld computer in her palm.

“We’re here.”

Cherry’s voice rang for the second time as she opened the door, Nicholas looked up and entered into the testing room of the base, the room which was primarily used to perform dangerous weapon tests on various biological organisms was now going to serve as a sparring center.

Once inside Nicholas found himself being observed by 3 fully armed individuals at the end of the room, two males and one female. The rough looking male was donning a typical warrior type armour with a huge axe hanging on his back, the female was dressed in an iconic mage robe which was dotted with various magical gems which from the looks of it were used for storing energy and the last individual was wearing a grey robe two daggers hung on his waist.

“Everything is ready let’s begin” a female voice sounded from the minute speakers in the room, With her words, the environment seemed to change although it still looked the same but Nicholas could tell he was already shrouded in a domain, he immediately controlled his body and switched to his internal circulation reducing the impact of whatever change the external environment would have on his body.

Jason stared at the individual who had just entered the room although he looked handsome he didn’t have any particularly outstanding charm or aura but nevertheless Jason would not underestimate him, despite his team being one of the best combat teams in the federation they were still asked to come forward and besiege the individual called Nicholas who was rumoured to be a living Alaya fragment, Jason and his teammates had naturally witnessed the rapid changes these few months and were well aware of the horrific power contained in the Alaya fragments that were not restricted and eroded the area around.

.....

Once he heard the voice Jason wasted no time and started to give commands through the mind link provided by Jessica the mage of the team while leaping towards his target, his hands unclasped the axe from his back as he swung the blade at Nicholas, Jessica wasted no time and slowly followed from behind while the hooded figure that was the assassin simply vanished from sight.

Nicholas noticed the heavy blade swinging right at his face, he noticed the speed of the attack was a little out of his estimation and Nicholas guessed it was most likely a joint result of the field that was currently enveloping the area and some combat skill used by the warrior, taking a slight step to the left Nicholas dodged the axe swing and then punching forward he collided head-on with the ball of red energy that emerged from the back of the warrior, it had been stealthily deployed by the mage and the timing and positioning of the attack was near perfect unfortunately for them even though the domain was suppressing Nicholas perception of the outside world it was not enough to deceive his sixth sense which had grown considerably thanks to the existence of his illusory will.

The punch which was amplified by his will and the biomagnetic field quickly reacted with his special body crushing the structure of the elemental orb leaving his arm unscathed.

On the surface it seemed that Nicholas had just simply used some sort of mental technique to interfere with the stability of the elemental energy contained in the orb but Cherry who was observing the battle from the monitor outside the room could see it was more than that the simple collision was not as it seemed the simple fist had launched an attack from a microscopic point, the orb was an elemental construct held together by a spell while seemingly powerful but from a microscopic point of view was full of flaws and easily crushed.

From a microscopic viewpoint the normal human body was comprised of atoms and the atoms in the body do not directly come in contact with other matter instead the sensation and feel of touching was actually derived from the various field each atom have, Nicholas’s body, on the other hand, had integrated all these field into one entity which was his body, this not only strengthened his defense but implied every one of his attacks or movement would be done using the full strength and weight of his body and this did not depend on his muscle structure or breathing movements it was a simple brute collision of the solidity and compactness of the integrated field that made up his body.

The mage did not have time to be surprised with the ease with which Nicholas dissolved her attack as Jason quickly counterattacked using the axe head as fulcrum moved his body upwards and sent a heavy kick towards Nicholas, the rapid change in combat did not faze him as he leisurely stretched his palm to grasp the leg of his attacker.

Nicholas was well aware of the absence of the last member of the team so he wasn’t too shocked when he perceived a dagger appearing out of nowhere heading towards him, before he could take any action the mage released a technique flooding the area with bright light, the next moment the subtle sound of metal cutting through flesh was heard.
