Chapter 240 The Grand Mage Token
The black two-star token represented the presence of a Grand Mage. It could only be used by those who had reached Grand Mage as it was their identification token.
However, there were instances where the descendants of a Grand Mage would use the black two-star token to show that they were backed by a Grand Mage.
Furthermore, all black two-star tokens would have the power of a Grand Mage contained within it when it was created. It was one of the main reasons why the descendants of a Grand Mage or the Grand Mage's disciples would bring it with them.
A Grand Mage could seal a grand-level magic spell inside the black two-star token. However, only one grand-level magic spell could be stored inside the black two-star token.
The usage of that grand-level magic spell would remove the grand-level magic spell contained in it. In other words, the grand-level magic spell could only be used once and it was mostly used as a life-saving artifact.

The other variation of the black two-star token was the black two-ring token. Instead of two stars engraved on the token, there were two rings engraved on the black two-ring token and it symbolized the presence of a Grand Warrior.
The black two-star token and black two-ring token were known as the Grand Mage token and Grand Warrior token respectively.
Alister had both the Grand Mage token and the Grand Warrior token. His Grand Mage token contained God Slaying Magic: Chaos Variation while his Grand Warrior token contained a black-grade swordsmanship move.
Because of the power contained within the Grand Mage token and Grand Warrior token, the elven guards who had seen the Grand Mage token felt oppressed whenever they saw it.

The Grand Mage token that the elven city guards had seen before was a used one. Identifying a used Grand Mage token was to identify the material used on the Grand Mage token. It was determining whether black magicite was used on the Grand Mage token or not.
At first glance, the elven city guards could already identify that the Grand Mage token shown by Alister was a genuine Grand Mage token made out of black magicite. Furthermore, the elven city guards weren't dumb enough to not feel the oppressive feeling from the Grand Mage token which further proved its authenticity.
