CH 31

Su Jin was seated on the second floor next to the window. After observing that the majority of the crowd in the medical hall had dispersed, she summoned the waiter to settle the bill.

“Oh, that face sure is a rare sight to behold.”

From her view through the window, she caught sight of a tall and handsome male figure. Su Jin’s curiosity was innocent and had no malicious intentions. As the man happened to have a face that bore striking resemblance to the description provided by young lady Liu, she could not resist but steal a few more glances.

Because of his extensive training in martial arts since childhood, Chen Beiqing possessed a sharp perception and instinctively noticed that someone was observing him. All of a sudden, he lifted his head and his eagle-like gaze darted straight towards Su Jin…

Systen#2250 gloated, “Ah ha! You have been caught!”

Su Jin moved away from his line of sight calmly, without showing any signs of embarrassment as she rolled her eyes and vacated her seat.

On the other hand, Chen Beiqing’s expression had shifted from annoyance to bewilderment. Despite the distance between them, he had a faint feeling that he recognized the woman. Where had he seen that face before? Before he could take a closer look, she had already left.

With some doubts lingering in his heart, his expression subconsciously turned grim. The furrowed eyebrows on his face amplified his fierce demeanour, prompting the nearby pedestrians to steer clear of him out of fear.

That’s right, his mother! Her eyes…. greatly resembled the ones of his mother, Yan Shi.

When he realized this, Chen Beiqing fixed his sights at the window on the second floor and immediately rushed there.

He was met with the sight of a vacant table. Gasping for his breath, he grabbed the waiter who was busy with clearing the plates and inquired, “Where did the girl go?”

The waiter lifted his head in discontent for being abruptly interrupted, only to be frightened by the intimidating aura of Chen Beiqing. He quickly brought his head down while responding with a trembling voice, “That … that lady had already left through the side exit.”

Chen Beiqing turned around and immediately chased after her tracks.

Unaware of the events that unfolded after she left, Su Jin made her way back to the medical hall lobby through the same route. After randomly selecting a physician, she entered the consultation booth and waited patiently.

Upon hearing footsteps of someone entering, Su Jin raised her head and recognized a familiar face. It turned out to be Dr. Feng, who had requested for her assistance regarding Jiang Ru Yan the other day when she came to purchase medicine for her eldest brother.

Dr. Feng momentarily paused while in the midst of sterilizing his hands as he recognized Su Jin as well and politely greeted her with a smile. “So we meet again, Miss Su. I am grateful for the help you provided on that day.”

“Don’t mention it. I have been duly compensated for helping out.” Su Jin gave a nonchalant reply. After all, the cost of the medicine she collected on that day was fully waived.

“Is Miss Su experiencing any discomfort or feeling unwell?” Dr. Feng casually inquired since Su Jin appeared to be healthy and there did not seem to be any visible issues at a glance.

“Lately, I have persistently been feeling lethargic. Is there something wrong with me? It felt as though I am constantly sleep deprived. Could you perform a medical examination on me?”

After listening to her, his expression turned serious as he inquired further, “Did you experience any change in appetite, for example, perhaps developing a strong craving for a particular type of food?”

His question struck a nerve and left Su Jin stunned. Indeed, she recently felt a sudden craving for spicy food out of the blue. She answered, “Yes, that did happen to me. Have you identified the cause of my condition?”

Dr. Feng refrained from making a rushed diagnosis and continued with the examination, “Please place your hand on the pulse rest.”

“Okay…”

Shortly after, Dr. Feng rose up from his seat and moved the pulse rest aside before bowing to Su Jin, “Congratulations, Miss Su, you are expecting. It has been about two months.”

Su Jin felt dizzy for a brief moment. Did she mishear something? What did the doctor say again?

The melon seeds in System#2250’s hands fell to the ground. The shocking news nearly caused its system to malfunction. What on earth happened? How did a baby suddenly pop out from nowhere? Wasn’t it supposed to have been following and monitoring its host every day?

No… wait… When it first bound with Su Jin, it did cut off the connection for a while when it realized that it had mistakenly bound itself to the wrong host.

Unbelievable! In just that short number of days, her host had gotten herself pregnant!?

Su Jin was left confused. She asked the physician in a wavering voice, “Could you repeat yourself again?”

Doctor Feng patiently reiterated, “You are pregnant…”

Su Jin absentmindedly stumbled her way out of the clinic. She became pregnant just from that one experience even though she had gone through several lifetimes?

The system picked up the melon seeds from the ground and continued nibbling on them while checking in a soft tone, “Hey buddy, are you feeling alright?”

“Uh…” Wouldn’t this mean that she would need to start preparing to provide sustenance for an additional mouth moving forward?

Those were the thoughts Su Jin pondered about while on her journey back home, with feelings of slight dejection.

Her little niece, Niu Niu, was the first to rush over and greet her while warmly embracing her leg, charmingly appealing to Su Jin.

Due to the improved food condition in the family, the little girl was no longer frail and skinny. She had gained some weight and her slightly chubby face made her look even more adorable.

Su Jin’s mood improved after she looked at her niece for a while. Well, whatever will be, will be. No point fretting about something that has already been set in stone.  Kids are adorable creatures bestowed by the divine stroke of fate. She could simply raise the child by herself after giving birth.

“We have a guest at home, Aunt.” Niu Niu pointed inside with her tiny fingers.

Su Jin instantly understood that a visitor had come over to their house. With a smile and a nod, she lifted the young girl and playfully bounced her up and down in the air, much to the delight of Niu Niu.

The concerned system cautioned her, “You should be more careful with your body.”

“Don’t worry, I have a sturdy body. It would take much more than a freak event to have a chance of harming my superhuman body which had undergone hellish training from a harsher realm.”

When the system confirmed that Su Jin was aware of her own actions, it ceased its naggings. After adjusting its spectacles, it began to peruse various parenting guidebooks and browse through online parenting resources to broaden its repertoire of child-rearing support.

“Oh, the protagonist had finally returned home. Look at you – truly an exquisite flower in full bloom! Whoever ends up marrying you will be incredibly fortunate,” said the woman with a big red handkerchief covering her lips as she smiled and appraised Su Jin from the head to the toe.

(It is unfortunate that no grandnephew of suitable age exist amongst my maternal family. With that huge piece of land, anyone marries her would literally receive a huge fortune indeed. Alas… truly a pity…)

Su Jin: “…”

(Who is this?)

Su Jin estimated the guest to be approximately fifty years of age from her plump facial features and flowery clothes. She had a mole in the area between her eyebrow and eye, and her lips were adorned with thick crimson-coloured lipstick. Powder would scatter from her face whenever she smiled.

Su Jin retreated a few steps back involuntarily.

“Mom, who is this lady?”

Su Jin could only turn towards Qin Shi for clarification since she did not know what was going on.

Qin Shi briefly glanced at her before introducing, “This is matchmaker Lin, a famous matchmaker in our town. She visited representing a family who is interested in proposing a marriage.”

While explaining to Su Jin, Qin Shi carefully examined her daughter. After all, a grown-up daughter would eventually become a bride one day. Therefore, when the matchmaker Lin came to the door, she did not outright reject her immediately

The best course of action would be to hear out the details. Since no one could predict when a good match might come knocking their doors.

“Matchmaking? Who’s getting married?”

“Who else but you…” Qin Shi felt slightly uneasy after responding to her daughter, and quickly followed up, “We are merely discussing minor details. There is nothing concrete at this point.”

“Oh, then don’t bother about it. I have no desire to become a bride.” Su Jin replied light-heartedly.

She did intend to find a husband, but it would be her husband marrying into her family instead. However, when she found out that she was expecting a baby, her hopes were dashed. Feelings of dejection crept into her heart when she was reminded of her current situation.

Before Qin Shi’s retort came, a slap reached Su Jin’s face first.

“Stop uttering nonsense! How can a girl not get married?”

Qin Shi gave her daughter another cold stare before facing matchmaker Lin with a smile.

“Now that Xiao Jin is present, let’s delve into the details. Which particular family has sent this marriage request?”

When matchmaker Lin heard of Qin Shi’s interest, a radiant smile bloomed on her face1TL Note: although withered would be more fitting for her age as she pulled Qin Shi nearer and playfully responded.

“You are in great luck, sister! Not only did you raise a capable daughter, even the future son-in-law is excellent as well. The proposal came from Xu Qingzhi of the Xu family, the only scholar in our village. What a great blessing, don’t you agree?”

Qin Shi frowned slightly when she heard that it turned out to be Xu Qingzhi. Her opinion of him was not favourable, as she remembered him being haughty and often looking down on others.

However, after considering that he was the only scholar in their village, it seemed logical for him to exhibit a certain level of pride. As Qin Shi could not make the decision on behalf of her daughter, she nudged Su Jin with her elbow, who had her attention focused on the skies instead.
