Chapter 154 - Who was "it" ? (1)

The head conman walked over a few steps and leaned over to check the ground where the boat had been. There was a lot of water there, and it was much wetter than the surrounding area. He didn't say anything, but he might as well have.

The other conmen panicked.

Someone said, "I heard there are water ghosts…"

"What ghost?“ The head conman rudely interrupted him. "Shut it. Wake those people up, and we'll get back into the van and go."

Lu Xingchi raised his eyebrows and let go of Bei Nuan. He led them over to Du Ruo and the others' tents.

The noises from earlier had woken up Du Ruo and the others. Du Ruo sleepily poked his head out of his tent. Jiang Fei had already gotten dressed and came out.

Lu Xingchi walked over and whispered a few words to them. They woke up Tang Tang, who had been soundly asleep, and started to take down their tents.

Bei Nuan ducked behind the tents and put stuff into her pocket space as they were taking down the tents. In the end, there were only two empty tents that they went through the motions of putting away in bags. It was pitch-black outside, and the other group couldn't see anything.

Those people hadn't bothered keeping any eye on them anyways. They were still preoccupied by the spooky events.

"Is there something… unclean about this place?" Someone muttered.

Bei Nuan thought; how could there be anything unclean here? Lu Xingchi was such a clean and beautiful person. He took a shower every day.

The conmen had guilty consciences and didn't dare to linger by the river. They urged Lu Xingchi and the others onto the van.

The group headed south on the road, and it didn't take them long to arrive at a large lake.

The lake was so vast. In the distance, there was a big island. The island was too far, and Bei Nuan could only vaguely make out a mountain and a stretch of buildings on the island.

The conmen were very familiar with the area and drove straight to a pier. Carrying guns, the conmen escorted Bei Nuan and the others out of the van.

There was a motorboat parked at the pier. It was a pretty, sleek white boat with a stripe of silvery blue paint that gleamed in the moonlight. It could seat several people and couldn't be more luxurious. The small wooden boat from before was an era out-of-date in comparison.

The boat immediately caught Bei Nuan's attention.

Everyone boarded the boat. With so many people, it was a bit cramped, but there was still enough space for everyone to sit.

The motorboat was very new, and its engine was strong and impressive. Like a water beast, it streaked across the lake and brought them to the island.

When disembarking, Bei Nuan stealthily tugged on a corner of Lu Xingchi's shirt. She batted her eyelids, looking very earnest.

Lu Xingchi looked down and clearly saw what she wanted in her eyes. Motorboat! Such a big, beautiful, motorboat!

Lu Xingchi replied with his eyes: Want it?

Bei Nuan's eyes: Yes! Very much!

Lu Xingchi's eyes: You want me to play that trick again? But, it's already been played.

Bei Nuan's eyes: Do it again. It's fine. They're idiots.

Lu Xingchi smiled.

Lu Xingchi's eyes: Okay.

Bei Nuan's eyes: I'm ready. Let's go.

Not far away, a slow and strange sound suddenly came from the darkness at the end of the pier.

It sounded like something was slowly fracturing or like an unknown monster was lurking in the darkness and grinding its teeth.

The sound continued.

The conmen panicked. They had driven so far, but that unknown thing had followed them all the way here.

The skinny man was the most cowardly one. With a whimper, he asked, "Big Bro, what's going on tonight? Is it a ghost?"

The head conman had a guilty conscience. He yelled at the skinny man in response, but he didn't sound that confident. "Nonsense! Come on, let's go see."

Clutching their guns in fear, the group of conmen headed towards the shore. None of them noticed that the beautiful, strong, and luxurious motorboat behind them had already disappeared.

The head conman forced himself to maintain his composure. Holding his gun with his hands, he carefully led his men onto the island.

They finally figured out what was making that unsettling noise. A metal lamppost at the end of the pier had been pushed down by an unseen force and was lying on the road. The sound was from the lamppost continuing to slowly fracture and break off from its base.

It was the middle of the night. There was no reason why a perfectly good lamppost would suddenly start to break.

The skinny man grabbed his boss. Panicking, he asked, "B-Big Bro, let's run?"

The head conman was the boss after all. He calmly said, "Don't be afraid. Take your time to walk slowly. Who knows? "It" might want us to run."

Who was "it" ?

His words frightened his group even more. They shivered.
