CH 40.2

Do You Still Hate Her? 30 – “You care about me, right?”

The door swung open, and their eyes met.

Ou Yi was dressed in blue and white hospital clothes, sitting cross-legged on the bed. A piece of gauze was attached to his left arm, his face was covered in sticky notes, and he held a deck of playing cards in his hand.

And by his bedside were two stools, with Lin Yanyan and Ye Lu seated on them. Their faces weren’t in a good state either, holding playing cards with deep resentment, their features almost hidden beneath the notes they had stuck all over.

Ou Yi’s eyes lit up, and he instinctively waved at Shang Lu : “Teacher Shang Lu…”

Before Ou Yi could finish his sentence, the playing cards in his hand scattered, even one flew onto Ye Lu’s face. Ou Yi rubbed his head and gave a silly smile to Shang Lu.

Then Ye Lu’s voice erupted in anger: “Are you cheating? You’re throwing all the cards away if you’re losing? Have you no shame?”

Shang Lu: “…”

What was he doing? What were they doing?

Ou Yi looked so happy. Shang Lu thought, Hurry up and give me back my tears, you jerk!

This time, it wasn’t Ou Yi’s turn to speak. Ou Yi’s father’s voice sounded even more exaggerated from behind them : “Teacher Shang, you are truly our Ou Yi’s lucky star. With you here, he doesn’t even need to lose this game!”

In the next moment.

Ou Yi’s father washed and peeled all the fruits from the fruit basket on the bedside table, placing them in front of Shang Lu with an expectant look.

If Ou Yi wasn’t still a patient, Father Ou seemed like he’d eagerly push Ou Yi aside and have Shang Lu lie down instead.

Shang Lu remained silent, then reached out and picked up a peeled apple, saying, “Thank you.”

Ou Yi, however, was very displeased : “Can you at least give me one?”

He was then glared at by his father, and he obediently sat cross-legged, not daring to speak.

Soon, some basic test results came out. The doctor’s assessment was, “Don’t worry, his health is better than all of you.”

Then Ye Lu became dissatisfied. He stood up directly and indicated that he wanted to go for a medical examination and compete with Ou Yi.

Of course, after receiving a warning glance from Lin Yanyan, he obediently sat back down.

Lin Yanyan held Shang Lu’s hand, pouting and saying, “I also wanted to come pick you up, but Chi Yan said that we should accompany Ou Yi to make you feel more at ease, so I waited for you here.”

Shang Lu smiled at her, then turned to Ou Yi and said, “I’m sorry, today I didn’t do well in many aspects.”

If she could calm down a bit, she could accurately explain the specific situation inside to the bystanders, and they could enter earlier to help.

Before Ou Yi could respond, Father Ou interrupted, his voice exaggerated and sincerely praising, “Teacher Shang, what are you saying? The way you lifted the fire extinguisher and smashed that rascal was so decisive and cool! I, this old man, felt my heart race when I saw it on the surveillance record! And that knife you took away from him was well done too. You also called the police very quickly. Without your calm actions, Ou Yi wouldn’t have gained the upper hand so easily.”

“Can you stop talking for a moment, Dad?” Ou Yi frowned, dissatisfied, and asked, “What should I praise after you’ve praised so much?”

Father Ou waved his hand and said, “We’re a family, whether you praise or I praise, it’s all the same.”

Ou Yi looked at Shang Lu again, thought seriously for a rare moment, organized his words, and said, “Today, we all did our best within our abilities, so please don’t blame yourself. I still believe that you are my benefactor.”

Before Shang Lu could be moved, Ou Yi suddenly changed the subject again and asked, “Teacher Shang Lu, I heard you cried for me?”

Shang Lu : “…?”

Wasn’t that off-topic?

But she nodded and admitted it.

Ou Yi looked even happier. He covered his face with his hand and said, “How could I deserve this? Today shall be commemorated as the day my benefactor shed tears for me!”

Ou Yi lowered his head, and at that moment, Shang Lu noticed a scratch on his forehead. Unable to hold back, she reached out, brushed aside his hair, and asked, “Was this also from today?”

“That rascal Xia Yuan caught it with his hand.” Ou Yi said this and then pressed his forehead a bit forward, touching Shang Lu’s palm. He joked, “Go ahead, touch it. This wound is deep, but you can’t see it again, because it’ll heal soon!”

At this moment, he felt a slightly dangerous gaze.

The smile on Ou Yi’s face stiffened a bit. He looked over and met eyes with Chi Yan.

They locked gazes.

Ou Yi’s not-so-bright mind only now realized the presence of Chi Yan.

It seemed like he had come in with his benefactor. He remembered now, this was the first person who entered the underground parking lot earlier!

Ou Yi, a bit slow on the uptake, sensed that this person’s gaze seemed to be fixed on Shang Lu all this time. So he turned his brain for a moment, looked at Shang Lu, and asked, “Is this your boyfriend? You two look really compatible!”

Shang Lu hesitated for a moment, then said, “Don’t talk nonsense.”

“Oh,” Ou Yi responded.

But the next moment, Ou Yi felt a change in the way the man in front of him was looking at him.

No longer guarded and probing like before, the gaze suddenly softened a lot. Chi Yan even smiled and handed Ou Yi a sliced apple, saying, “Rest well. Good people will be rewarded.”

And then, at the calls of Lin Yanyan and Ye Lu, Shang Lu even joined them to play a few rounds of poker before leaving.

When leaving the ward, Chi Yan raised his wrist to check the time, but said without looking at Shang Lu, “I told you last time, there’s no one else here, so if you don’t want to smile, then don’t.”

The smile on Shang Lu’s face faded, replaced by a weary expression.

Chi Yan also didn’t comfort her; he just said, “Let’s go back first, have something to eat, and rest early.”

Shang Lu followed Chi Yan back to his home.

She sat on the sofa, waiting, while he went to the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles.

As always, Xiao Guai obediently and cutely approached her, and Shang Lu touched it. She instinctively wanted to smile but stopped at the thought of the phrase ‘if you don’t want to smile, then don’t.’

She petted Xiao Guai’s head and suddenly asked in a low voice, “Do dogs get tired?”

Xiao Guai probably couldn’t understand what she was saying, and even if it did, it couldn’t reply. It just wagged its tail and barked, *Woof!*

Of course, Shang Lu couldn’t understand its words either.

When Chi Yan walked out of the kitchen with the noodles, what he saw was Shang Lu leaning on the sofa, already asleep.

Chi Yan approached, hesitating whether to wake her up, but he realized a problem when he saw the unnatural blush on her face.

Chi Yan reached out and gently placed his hand on Shang Lu’s forehead. Feeling the slightly elevated temperature, he didn’t hesitate. He bent down and directly carried Shang Lu to his own room.

His family doctor arrived quickly, and after the examination, the doctor mentioned that it was just a slight fever. Taking medicine and getting some rest would resolve the issue. After instructing Chi Yan on how to take care of the patient, the doctor left.

The bedside lamp was on, and after taking the medicine, Shang Lu drifted into a deep sleep.

Meanwhile, Chi Yan sat on a chair by the bedside, resting his arm on the edge of the bed and propping up his cheek. He lowered his head and watched her.
