CH 196

[Hope And Anxiety]

I was still a bit dazed even after returning to my room in the dormitory.

Was I feeling happy? Or was I feeling scared?

It was a strange mix of both.

“Is something the matter, Young Master?”

Marina asked in concern. Behind her, Priim and Rebecca were also looking at me worriedly.

The principal didn’t tell me to keep the matter about my appointment as the next student council president a secret.

Well, she said she was going to officially announce it soon, so it wouldn’t matter, but it’d be prudent not to spread the word around.

…However, I could trust Marina and the rest.

Not to mention, they were genuinely concerned about me. I could tell that much.

So I told them how I was appointed to be the next student council president by the principal.

Of course, I was going to tell Tayte about it later too.

Now, for their reaction…

“That’s amazing!”

“Congrats-nya!”

“It’s truly wonderful to hear…”

Marina and Priim were very excited. Rebecca even cried.

Well, they’d been serving Barrett Albers since he was a kid, so they knew too well about his rotten side. Now they were hearing that I would be taking such an honorable position as the student council president like Reina, it was only natural they’d be moved to tears.

“Have you informed this matter to Lady Tayte?”

“Well, I’m just going to–”

At that moment, suddenly there was a knock on the door. And…

“Barrett, are you back?”

It was Tayte.

What nice timing.

I hurriedly opened the door.

“Hey, Tayte.”

“! I-I’m glad… I came by earlier but you weren’t here, so I was worried that something had happened…”

The girls’ and boys’ dorms weren’t that far apart from each other, and my meeting with the principal didn’t take that much time. The fact that she had come twice in that short period must mean she was really worried.

Well, I couldn’t blame her given what she had gone through… She might be trying to look okay on the surface, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she still had lingering fear in her heart.

“Tayte. There’s something I need to tell you. Why don’t you come in first?”

“Ah, y-yes.”

I invited Tayte into my room.

Seeing this, my three maids quickly took their leave with “We shall prepare you some tea.” They must have wanted to give us some privacy, but they had been too obvious about it. Tayte tilted her head with a suspicious look on her face. “Um, did something happen, after all?”

“Well, something did happen… but it was a good thing.”

“A good thing?”

We sat facing each other at the table. I took a deep breath before telling her how I had been appointed as the next student council president by Principal Abigail.

“You? The next student council president…? That’s wonderful!”

As I’d expected, Tayte was elated at the news.

…Then, I shouldn’t hold anything from her.

I expressed my anxiety to Tayte.

“But… I’m also afraid.”

“Afraid?”

“I mean, Reina was perfect as the student council president. I’m afraid I couldn’t live up to the high bars set by he–”

“You can.”

Tayte cut me in the middle of my sentence.

She looked me straight in the eye and continued without the slightest hesitation. “I’m sure you can be as good a student council president as Reina was.”

“I-I wonder…”

“I will support you as well.”

“Huh?”

“Whether it be in your duties as the student council president or as the leader of the Knights of the Academy, I will assist you by your side, okay?” Tayte smiled gently.

…Her smile made me feel like all my worries were blown away.

No, it wasn’t just a feeling.

My worries were blown away.

“Thanks, Tayte… I’m so glad that you’re my fiancée.”

“! I-I as well…” Tayte lowered her face in embarrassment.

Behind her stood Marina holding a pot of freshly brewed tea.

You don’t need extra sugar, do you?

She didn’t say it out loud, but that was written all over her face. By the way, Priim and Rebecca also had the same look on their faces.

…They were definitely going to tease me later.
