[Waking up From the Nightmare]

What a terrible way to wake up.

A mysterious person in a robe came into contact with the original Barrett who seemed to have become eviler.

What were they talking about? I couldn’t tell, but they seemed to be hatching an evil scheme to me.

That was most likely… the opening scene of the first chapter of the latest volume of the original novel [Rise of the Weakest Holy Swordsman].

The ‘Barrett Comeback Theory’ that had been going around the fandom for some time became a reality.

I wondered what would happen to Barrett after that.

Would he gain great power and stand in Raul and his party’s way again?

Or–

“Good morning, Barrett.”

As I was thinking about the Barrett I saw in my dream, Tayte showed up at our usual meeting place.

“O-oh, morning, Tayte.”

“? Is something the matter?”

“Not at all—I mean, yeah, actually. I’m kind of worried.”

“Worried?”

“The new semester is starting today, and so is the new student council. I’m worried if I could do a good job as the student council president…”

“Oh, you. You’ll be fine. You’ll have everyone to support you, which of course includes me!” Tayte declared as she patted her chest.

She was trying to put me at ease… she really was kind to the core.

“Thanks, Tayte.”

“Let’s do our best together, Barrett.”

“Yeah!”

…I was an idiot.

Barrett I saw in that dream was arrogant, shallow, and utterly devoid of compassion. It only served him right to lose everything he used to have.

Meanwhile, Barrett Albers in this world, which was me, was completely different from him.

I knew the future, so I had been working hard to not end up like him. I also helped other characters so they could have a happy future.

I wouldn’t become like him.

I had many friends I could count on, after all.

…Still, I couldn’t help but be curious about the mystery person who talked to the original Barrett.

They were fully covered in a robe, so I couldn’t even tell their gender.

Why would they approach the original Barrett? It made me uneasy not to know their intentions.

I couldn’t rule out the possibility that they weren’t a new character, either. Who was to say if behind that robe was a familiar face?

And—this was totally based on my intuition, but—could that person be the last boss of the [Rise of the Weakest Holy Swordsman]

That scene in the abandoned church didn’t provide any clues pointing in that direction, but I couldn’t help but feel that way for some reason.

Still, I never imagined the author would write the final volume right after the book version was released and the manga serialization began.

Was it because the book didn’t sell well and the first volume was discontinued, so they were trying to close the story in desperation? …Nah, no way.

While I was thinking about such things, we arrived at the school building.

Seemed like Raul and Jarvis were talking about something, so we decided to join them.

“Morning.”

“Good morning.”

“Heya, morning.”

“Lord Barrett! Lady Tayte! Good morning!”

Greetings done, I immediately asked them about what they were talking about.

“What were you talking about?”

“Just the preps for tomorrow’s entrance ceremony, is all.”

“Jarvis and I are in charge of decorating the auditorium where the ceremony will be held.”

“I see—Wait, we need to get flowers from the Horticulture Committee, don’t we?”

“We do, yes.”

And so our casual chats continued.

Indeed.

There was no ‘Hated Hero’ who would fall into the slums here.

I didn’t need to think too much and just trust my friends and carry on as usual.

Vowing in my heart, I headed to the classroom with Tayte, Jarvis, and Raul.

Organizing the entrance ceremony would be our first job as members of the student council—we had to make sure it went well, no matter what.
