Chapter 92 91 - First Day

After his birthday party, the group stayed for one more day and all went out for a day on the town. They went to all the major sites, the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Grand Central station. As years passed, new buildings sprouted up, and climbed ever taller into the atmosphere. Skyscrapers were now an understatement, and instead skypiercers would be a more fitting name, as they towered above the clouds.

For the members of the group who had not been to New York before, they were amazed at the sheer size of the buildings. Zach in particular was excited about visiting the city as he had grown up in a more rural area, and while the acropolis was big, they couldn't make the buildings too tall as the island needed to be able to move. He had brought Waki with him and the still young beast was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the city and kept jumping from one of Zach's shoulders to the other, taking in the sight of the massive buildings around him. More than once, Zach was zapped when Waki gave off small shocks from his sheer excitement of exploring the city.

Eventually it had come time for the group to leave and Milo and Krista escorted their friends to the GAA branch in the city where they all took the teleporters that would lead them back to their hometowns. Milo and Krista stopped for food while they were out and talked a bit about what Krista would be doing for the summer while Milo worked at the Incubus Guild. She told him that she would be looking for a part time job. Something to help her earn some income before returning back to the academy at the end of the summer.

Eventually they finished their food and returned back to their apartment building and made their way up to their homes. Milo wanted to get a bit of rest so for the next few days leading up to his first day at his internship he chose to not do much. Only really getting up to work out in the morning as well as to eat. He hadn't been as lazy as he'd been those few days ever since starting at the academy.

Eventually Monday had rolled around and he got up and worked out just as he had been doing since his first daily quest appeared. He ate a good sized breakfast and packed his lunch before heading down to the address that he was given the day he took his provisional license exam. He had everything he thought he might need, he found out he could store his lunch in his dimensional storage earring. So his lunch along with all his equipment was currently in his dimensional space. Since he had turned the unique core into a piece of equipment, his system inventory was currently empty.

Once he arrived at the building, he entered and made his way to the front desk where he introduced himself. Once he had informed the receptionist who he was, she asked him to wait for a while while she called the person who'd take him on a tour of the building. Eventually a familiar face was seen getting off the elevator and made their way over to the small sitting area where Milo was waiting.

"Welcome to the headquarters of the Incubus Guild," said David, the guild member who came to his provisional license exam. "This building is where all guild activities are carried out, aside from gatecrashing of course. Now follow me and I'll give you a tour of the rest of where the guild operates."

Milo stood up and followed David to the elevators.

"The guild only uses the top 25 floors of this building, out of the 80 floors it has, the first 30 floors are rented out to businesses and other people who need office space, and the remaining floors act as apartments for our guild members to use, should they choose to live here," he said.

Once the two were in the elevator, David pressed the button for the 56th floor and scanned his holo on a small scanner next to the console that held the buttons to select what floor you'd like to go to. The doors then closed and the elevator zoomed to the first floor the guild used. The elevator moved very quickly and it was apparent that the guild spared no expense on making sure that the newest and most advanced technology was implemented into the building. Once they arrived, Milo and David stepped into what appeared to be an office space.

"The first 10 floors are offices used for many different things: Scouting out possible new recruits, reserving gates and dungeons for the guild to close, going over attack plans with our strike squads, et cetera," David said. "Onto the next floors."

The two of them then got back on the elevator and went up 11 floors. When they got up to their floor, rather than sit in front of the elevator and explain, David signaled to follow him, and the two began to walk down the hallway. "This floor as well as the four above it are dedicated to weight rooms and other rec rooms where our gatecrashers can come to workout, use the sauna, the steam room, the pool, and more. We offer the top of the line equipment and as an intern you are allowed to use them as well. If you would like, we can also set you up with a trainer who will help you work out with a dedicated training plan." Milo then was taken through the weight rooms, and David wasn't kidding when he said that they had the top of the line equipment, while walking through he could see both male and female gatecrashers working out as well.

David then guided him up to the next floors where they'd be seeing new stuff. The next thing they went to view were the training rooms. The training rooms were in the next section of floors, each training room was reinforced with magical technology, just like the room where he took the provisional license exam, holograms could be set up for whoever was training to have targets to practice on. The training rooms had the regenerating dummies that could be used as a practice target, just the like the Academy as well. The rooms had windows that people could use to watch who was training and through a few of them Milo could see gatecrashers firing off different abilities at holograms and training dummies.

"As you can see these are the training rooms," David said, before reiterating everything Milo had observed so far. "These are also open for you to use at any time, and take up the 5 floors above us."

They continued on, and the next floor was dedicated completely to virtual reality stations just like the Sim Room back at the academy. "I'm sure you know what these are used for already, being that the academy has a room dedicated to them as well, but these stations are all dedicated for our gatecrashers to practice closing simulated gates. It's also where we start training for new recruits, so this is where you'll be starting off tomorrow."

Hearing David say this, Milo felt a jolt go through him. If this is where they practiced closing gates, and it was where Milo would be starting… It took Milo a second to do the math but eventually he came to the conclusion that he would be being placed in a strike squad. He didn't want to disappoint himself, so he decided to hold off on getting excited until he knew for sure. He and David took a tour around the floor, and he noticed that there were 10 stations per room, which was the most common size of a gatecrashing squad for gates C rank and higher. After touring the floor they made their way to the elevator and went up another floor.

This floor wasn't like any of the other floors and instead looked like a party room. There were couches, pool tables, arcade machines. Milo was a bit confused before David explained, "this floor and the one above are strictly for the relaxation of the guild members. Gatecrashing can be a stressful line of work and you and your fellow gatecrashers will encounter many horrors that common citizens can't even imagine. Because of this, our guild leader wanted a space where you could relax and unwind, and overall just let the stress of the job go."

Hearing that this was the case, Milo was amazed at the person the Incubus guild master was. He truly cared about his colleagues and Milo was grateful that this was where he would intern for the summer.

"The last part of the tour is the top floor, which is where the guild master's office is located," David said. The two then made their way over to the elevator and David once again scanned his holo to go to the next floor. Once the elevator arrived, the two walked out and were met with a hallway that led to a door. The door was more plain than Milo was expecting but they both made their way to the door and David opened it. Walking into the room, Milo could see a very luxurious looking office space, which severely contrasted the simple door. At the end of the office, a large desk could be seen and sitting behind the desk was someone that had once saved Milo's life. He was also the older sibling of one of his friends. Milo used his inspect skill out of habit and a screen appeared.
