“This little girl’s mentality…is that steady?”

The first points match had formally started. Zhou Kanqing studied Xue Lan who left the training room with them, and couldn’t help but wonder softly, “That situation earlier, if we saw correctly he should’ve fired a headshot… but did she really not cheat? She’s immediately prohibited from playing one game. A lot of new professional players struggle to maintain such a steady mentality. I remember she used to chase after you… It was our club’s nightmare.”

Since Wen Yan did not say anything, he continued, “And that time we didn’t see her play that well, but after you think about it, do you really plan on listening to the higher-ups and recruiting her into LGW? Ey, Ah-Yan, she couldn’t have… practiced as an assaulter for you right?”

Wen Yan didn’t speak. He glanced disapprovingly at him.

Zhou Kanqing quickly raised his hands. “Okay okay, I’ll be quiet.”

He knew that although Wen Yan was terribly annoyed by this girl, he wasn’t one to gossip about a person’s right or wrong behind their back. The team was lacking a medic now, and although BabyCandy’s medic skill was not outstanding, it was still in a notable position in the country in the current situation where there were too few medics. He actually carefully considered the higher-ups’ suggestion, willing to admit Xue Lan.

Zhou Kanqing had to look away but noticed Wen Yan was looking at that familiar figure in the training room.

Zhou Kanqing’s eyes brightened. “Wenzheng is good, his talent in this regard has always been strong since small, it’s just that his family situation…”

The match in the training room had started, but Duan Wenzheng strangely only leaned back in his seat and moved his character to jump around, and even avoided the gunfight area, whether intentionally or not. A few minutes into the game and his numbers never changed.

Wen Yan frowned. He withdrew his gaze. “Why did he leave his house?”

“Um…” Zhou Kanqing, who had always said whatever he wanted, choked and faltered for a long while before awkwardly saying in a small voice, “I heard his dad arranged a blind date for him when he turned 18 last year. With his temper, he didn’t go and as he got annoyed he said— said he doesn’t like girls…”

Wen Yan was dumbfounded.

“You have no idea, his dad kicked him out of the house then. His dad said if he doesn’t straighten himself he will not recognize this son, this matter was such a racket…”

“…” Wen Yan seemed to be baffled by Zhou Kanqing’s words, his whole person frozen on his spot.

Zhou Kanqing seemed to have guessed it would end like this. He cleared his throat and sighed. “I know you can do nothing but accept this kind of heresy, but don’t worry, Wenzheng may not seem reasonable but he’s still decent.”

Wen Yan did not say anything. He looked at Duan Wenzheng who was still in the game before turning toward Xue Lan who was standing outside the training room.

Xue Lan was puzzled by Duan Wenzheng’s operation.

Duan Wenzheng’s performance in this game was strange.

The game had not started for long, but he would always avoid the gunfight area and wander at the edge. He didn’t know what Duan Wenzheng was thinking, but the points match was important for the training camp players. It would immediately determine their rank after being bid by the club.

Duan Wenzheng left his home. Although he was not devoted to anything and did not have an ardent love for an e-sports career, beneath the surface he wanted to prove to his father that he did not have to rely on him to keep living.

With Duan Wenzheng’s skill, he definitely wouldn’t have had no kills nearing ten minutes into the game.

Xue Lan was so concerned about what Duan Wenzheng was planning to do that he did not realize someone had walked up to him and stood beside him.

“When did you start playing assaulter?”

The familiar voice made Xue Lan unconsciously stifle his breath. He withdrew his gaze and looked to his side in shock.

“Wen— Wen Yan.”

Wen Yan studied his look while he wanted to take a step back. Wen Yan frowned. “Why do you want to play as an assaulter?”

Xue Lan calmed down and looked away. “It’s been a while, because… I want to play as an assaulter.”

Wen Yan was noncommittal towards this answer and only asked again, “Last time when I saw you, why did you run so fast?”

“Ah? Last time?” Xue Lan feigned ignorance. “When?”

“LGW is lacking one medic, you might already know about it.” Wen Yan also did not dig deeper into whether he was pretending or not. He sternly said, “No need for that person to say anything, LGW looks at one’s strength. If you want to join LGW you have to prove it with your ability.”

Wen Yan knew his father was Xue Yuanshan. This was due to the romantic Xue Lan who was bent on winning Wen Yan’s favor and turned to his father. Of course… it only caused Wen Yan’s abhorrence.

“I will.”

Xue Lan’s expression was gentle. He calmly answered, “But not as a medic, I wish to become a professional assaulter.”

“LGW is not lacking an assaulter.” Wen Yan’s eyes had a profound meaning. “You’ve carefully thought about it?”

“Mm.”

Wen Yan’s eyes settled on his broad and level gaze and he was silent for a long time.

But even if Xue Lan’s expression was calm, his heart seemed to want to leap out of his chest.

He knew—

Wen Yan knew more than anyone, the reason he suddenly accepted to come to the training camp as a special coach was, besides because the team urgently needed a medic and sniper, he secretly wanted to look for an outstanding assaulter.

His old wrist injury had relapsed, and most likely he wouldn’t be able to continue playing. He hid the truth from everyone, one because after LGW’s medic teammate Sun Haoshan retired, he could only hold back his injury. The other was because… he didn’t want to leave LGW just like that.

Xue Lan knew better… All of this was just the beginning. Underneath the surface, the calm surface was far more difficult than Wen Yan was thinking.

Because another member of LGW’s core members, assaulter Meng Qi, would soon also declare to retire.

And he—

Was not only determined to be an assaulter, but he wished, even more, to be able to join LGW and walk side by side with Duan Wenzheng toward the pinnacle.

He wanted to become an assaulter but was more interested in becoming LGW’s assaulter.

While the two spoke in a low voice, a cry of surprise came from the training room.

Xue Lan seemed to realize something and quickly looked in the direction of Duan Wenzheng. But Duan Wenzheng’s seat was currently empty. While he was bewildered,  an arm suddenly hung around his shoulders at ease—

“Why did you not call me when you got up this morning?”
