Chapter 30 – You Should Learn a Little More Common Sense

According to what I heard at dinner that day at the Duke’s residence.

There was no exam for the final examination, and Suzuha was decided to be the top student of the year.

“Huh? What does that mean? Is there no chance for a comeback?”

“No, no, that’s not the case. There’s a chance, but…”

Yuzuriha-san explained in a troubled tone.

“Normally, the student who beat the examiner in the entrance exam—in this case, Suzuha-kun—would compete against the whole year group in the final exam. If she beats them all, she would be placed first without question, and if Suzuha-kun lost, the plan was to have another tournament with all the remaining students at that point.”

“That’s a great testing method…”

“If we didn’t do it that way, there would be no challenge. However, it worked for me during my time…”

I remember that Yuzuriha-san was the first person in history to beat an examiner in an entrance exam, and Suzuha was the second.

“So you’re saying that didn’t work this time?”

“No, Nii-san. I would have been fine with that, but everyone withdrew.”

“Withdrew?”

“Yes. I wanted to let everyone know in advance how much power I have…”

“Yes?”

“So I lifted a rock with an estimated weight of 5 tons in the schoolyard with my bare hands and then squashed it in my arms, and for some reason, everyone in the class turned pale and all of them withdrew.”

“Hmm…”

If they were public civilians, it would be far too threatening indeed.

But, as it’s been a semester since the students entered the Strongest Royal Female Knight Academy, every student should be able to do at least that much…

“Why did they withdraw?”

“I just don’t understand it.”

“…Suzuha-kun and her brother should learn a little more about common sense.”

I received criticism about my lack of common sense from a duke’s daughter. It was painful.

In my mind, the phrase ‘this person has no common sense!’ is a symbol of when commoners insult aristocrats.

“Well, it doesn’t matter. Suzuha-kun’s older brother, the problem is what happens in the future.”

“What do you mean?”

“We received a direct order from the military Supreme Commander.”

I was impressed that Yuzuriha was appointed by the highest commander.

“Why are you looking at me as if you’re not included? The order includes Suzuha-kun’s older brother, too, of course.”

“Eh? But I’m not even a soldier, just an amateur commoner…?”

“How can you be an amateur when you demonstrated such a mock battle. You idiot.”

I was glared at by Yuzuriha-san with a sharp gaze. I wonder why?

“Well, regarding Suzuha-kun’s older brother, it’s too late to expect him to suddenly become self-aware now.”

“Eh, did I do something wrong again?”

“You’re being noisy, and the conversation isn’t progressing. You should be surprised when you hear the orders from the Supreme Commander—The three of us, Suzuha-kun’s older brother, Suzuha-kun, and myself, are tasked with defending the border from the ‘Ogres’ Great Forest.’”

Yuzuriha-san spat out with a face like she had just bitten a bitter insect.

But as far as the order is concerned, I don’t think it’s that mind-boggling.

It’s true that I’m not in the military, but I don’t mind if I get paid by the day…

“You don’t seem to understand. This order is for the three of us to defend our country against the threat of the Ogres’ Great Forest.”

“…Yes?”

Mulling over Yuzuriha-san’s words, I eventually hit upon a possibility.

No, no, no, but that would be too stupid.

“Yuzuriha-san, just to confirm, are there not many soldiers other than us tasked with this mission…?”

“No, there aren’t any.”

“Eh? As far as my knowledge goes, the Ogres’ Great Forest is a very dangerous and critically important location for national defense, as it is home to hundreds of thousands of ogres and every summer breeding season, a flood of ogres spills out of the forest and causes chaos outside of it. Isn’t that right…?”

“That’s right.”

“Moreover, I heard that the ogres in the Ogres’ Great Forest are not ordinary ogres, and there are many mutants among them. Even trained knights have to deal with them in groups of several people as a basic tactic, isn’t that right…?”

“You have studied well. I can recommend you as a knight now. How about it?”

“I decline. Anyway, isn’t suggesting that only the three of us go to such a place a bit insane…?”

“I think so too!”

I see. No wonder Yuzuriha-san is so pissed off.

“When the High Command’s messenger came to deliver this order, he said, ‘It would be an easy job for those who have the ability to fight the wandering white-haired vampire on an equal footing. Hahaha…’ It made me so angry that I taught the messenger the depth of my strength to the bone. Literally.”

“…Literally?”

“Nii-san… There is a resurrection magic circle in the Duke’s mansion.”

“Ah… (I guessed it)”

The astute me understood what it meant.

“Suzuha-kun is very quick to understand. Well, I hugged him with full power and made him go crazy with intense pain that cracked every bone in his body, I ruptured all of his internal organs with a single punch, I shattered his limbs one by one by gently squeezing it, and so many other things.”

“Uwaa…”

“Maybe I overdid it somewhat, but by the end he was shaking and pissing and crying and vomiting with fear just because I was in sight… Oh Suzuha-kun’s older brother, why are you taking a step back?”

“To be honest, it’s really off-putting.”

I was reminded once again that Yuzuriha-san must never be offended.
